PhillyKev 0 #1 April 8, 2004 No wonder Bush didn't want her to testify... QuoteWASHINGTON (Reuters) - White House national security adviser Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites) said on Thursday the administration discussed "doing something against Iraq (news - web sites)" after the Sept. 11 attacks but President Bush (news - web sites)'s top aides advised against it. Reuters Photo "There was a discussion of Iraq," Rice told the commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks. She said the issue of Iraq was raised by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and "pressed a bit" by his deputy, Paul Wolfowitz. "Given that this was a global war on terror, should we look not just at Afghanistan (news - web sites) but should we look at doing something against Iraq? There was a discussion of that," Rice said. "The president listened to all his advisers. I can tell you that when he went around the table and asked his advisers what he should do, not a single one of his principal advisers advised doing anything against Iraq. It was all to Afghanistan," Rice said. QuoteShe revealed intercepted communications, also called "chatter," that was picked up during that period that said: "Unbelievable news in coming weeks" or "Big event ... there will be a very, very, very, very big uproar" or "There will be attacks in the near future." akarunway 1 #2 April 8, 2004 Kev, you don't think this was scripted do you? She doesn't want to answer out of order questions. Gawain 0 #3 April 8, 2004 This is not news. It's been widely published that initial suspicions re: 9/11 included Iraq, among other countries and organizations. I've been listening to the testimony most of the morning so far, and these commissioners are a few hairs short of grandstanding and Dr. Rice is chewing them up. So far, I've heard nothing in the testimony that mirrors reports of Clarke's testimony (which is still classified BTW).So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! quade 4 #4 April 8, 2004 Geeze . . . I think Clarke made quite a bit of testimony live on C-Span. (Didn't realize I had the high security clearance required to view that.) Anyway . . . I'm disappointed that testimony today has become fairly partisan. The Reps are mostly throwing softballs (Slade Gorton (R)) and it disappoints me to see Ms. Rice smiling and nodding like a goon during this (what should be a) serious discussion. On the flip side, Bob Kerry (D) seemed to tear her up quite a bit . . . but John Lehman (R) seems reasonable all this considered.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

And you have to wonder if Former Gov Thompson (remeber this is a guy that allowed bribes for CDLs on his watch) is running back and forth to get phone calls from the white house like he was during Clarke's questioning. Not only is she nodding, she is often checking notes for each question, as if she knew ahead of time what the panel was going to ask her. The only time she was flustered or upset is when she was forced to answer candidly and what seemed like out of order questions._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... akarunway 1 #7 April 8, 2004 And she's also sucking major dick. I think she's gonna be the scapegoat in this ordeal. PhillyKev 0 #9 April 8, 2004 QuoteThis is not news. It's been widely published that initial suspicions re: 9/11 included Iraq, among other countries and organizations. Right...and Rice is saying that ALL the advisors except Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz discounted Iraq and said to concentrate on Afghanistan. Quick, put on any news channel right now and let me know if they're talking about the war in Iraq.
lawrocket 3 #10 April 8, 2004 Actually, I only caught about 20 minutes of it at around 6:30 this morning. Maybe it's the lawyer in me, but what the hell are people doing clapping and cheering during this testimony? Frankly, all it's about is showmanship, and not about getting to the bottom of anything. Otherwise, that cheering and clapping nonsense would be stopped. My wife is hotter than your wife.

To their credit, a few commission members tried to stop them, but overall I kept wishing that time could be used for actual testimony.
