Rice to Testify Publicly Before 9/11 Commission

The bottom line is, she said, publicly, that Clarke lied under oath. That is why they asked her to come testify again. If she has evidence of a crime (Clarke lying under oath) then she HAS to provide that. If she didn't go on talk shows claiming that Clarke commited a crime, this situation wouldn't exist.

If that were the case, the commission would've attempted to subpoena her. They didn't, because they couldn't.

But White House officials indicated Rice had no intention of apologizing for the 9/11 tragedy as Clarke did, because the administration felt it did all that could be done to prevent the attacks based on the information available.

"The people that ought to apologize for that are the people who attacked us," said the senior administration official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The official noted that President Franklin Roosevelt did not apologize for the 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

Nice comparison. It's pretty much accepted that FDR knew in advance and could have prevented Pearl Harbor. Wonder what this guy is really trying to say?

Dr. Rice does not owe me, or anyone, in my opinion, an apology. Those that feel are owed one, I believe, have a false sense of entitlement.

FDR didn't necessarily know about Pearl Harbor either. IIRC, a radar operator reported something, but no notice or alert was ever communicated from the base (I could be wrong).

Until now. After decades of Freedom of Information Act requests, Robert B. Stinnett has gathered the long-hidden evidence that shatters every shibboleth of Pearl Harbor. It shows that not only was the attack expected, it was deliberately provoked through an eight-step program devised by the Navy. Whereas previous investigators have claimed that our government did not crack Japan's military codes before December 7, 1941, Stinnett offers cable after cable of decryptions. He proves that a Japanese spy on the island transmitted information — including a map of bombing targets — beginning on August 21, and that government intelligence knew all about it. He reveals that Admiral Kimmel was prevented from conducting a routine training exercise at the eleventh hour that would have uncovered the location of the oncoming Japanese fleet. And contrary to previous claims, he shows that the Japanese fleet did not maintain radio silence as it approached Hawaii. Its many coded cables were intercepted and decoded by American cryptographers in Stations on Hawaii and in Seattle.

That theory has been around for years.

Also

Churchill warned Stalin ahead of time that the Germans were about to invade (Barbarossa, 1941) but Stalin found it politically expedient to ignore the warnings.

Seems that politicians of all stripes lie and sacrifice their own when they feel like it.

Is it just me but don't most intelligent people understand the 9/11 situation. We have an organization that we know is performing terrorist activities and wants to attack the U.S. But we have NO idea of exactly when, where, or how they plan to do it. Once they do enact the plan it it happens so fast we have little time to prevent mass casualties. Why did it happen?

1. No one had EVER used aircraft as a suicide guided missile. So we didn't expect a hijacking to end with 3000+ people dead.
2. The cockpit doors were breached. We didn't understand the implications. because.....SEE #1 Had the flight deck doors not been breached at least on the plane and occupants as the maximum would have been lost.
3. FBI and CIA was not allowed by LAW to communicate all information to each other. Plus...SEE #1. Laws that where enacted after gross violations of powers from both organization on U.S. citizens.

These investigation won't find a smoking gun. Even if they do what good is going to come of it. The President will have been out of office and publishing his memoirs. Terrible things happen. Learn from them and move on. There has been great efforts to Stop terrorism Terrorism isn't going to war with a nation. It's stopping someone who would rather die for their cause than live in their current situation. If someone doesn't fear death there is little to bargain or work with.

The American dream isn't the same dream for the world. Thats why it's called the American Dream

>1. No one had EVER used aircraft as a suicide guided missile.

Look up the definition of the word "kamikaze."

>So we didn't expect a hijacking to end with 3000+ people dead.

Tom Clancy wrote about a terrorist who flies a 747 into the capitol building killing thousands in the book "Debt of Honor." So a few tens of thousands of americans read about just that plan in 1997.

?? Not sure that has anything to do with anything. SOP up until that point was to give the hijackers what they wanted.

>3. FBI and CIA was not allowed by LAW to communicate all

But they did communicate it to their superiors. There was definitely a failure of intelligence; there is no law that prevents the heads of both departments from coordinating with the administration.

We screwed up. Dr. Rice admitted as much - there were systematic problems in the intelligence gathering and interpretation system. We could have stopped it with a little more luck, a little more attention or a little more coordination. Heck, we stopped a terrorist from blowing up LAX just before 2000. The thing to do now is figure out what we did wrong and fix the problem.
