Scoop 0 #1 January 28, 2007 Hi, I saw a post from NTRPNR in bonfire about wrist cams. They look good and pretty cheap but I'm aware of the DONT JUMP CAMERA UNLESS YOU HAVE 200 JUMPS OR YOU WILL AUTOMTICALLY DIE attitude and regs. I wonder how these would fair with regards the regulations. Paticularly if its just a stills cam. Just seems like a secure way of holding a digital camera and taking some cool snaps. Maybe in freefall but more likely when under canopy. See here for info http://www.goprocamera.com/ So what you think?
phoenixlpr 0 #2 January 28, 2007 I can see remote control, so you can not use it in free-fall. You can take picture with any camera under canopy. Its useless for skydiving.
Scoop 0 #3 January 28, 2007 Yeah but unless you make some sort of lanyard you could easily drop other cameras
phoenixlpr 0 #4 January 28, 2007 So. You can have a wristband or lanyard with any camera. I made the last 3 pictures an old 36mm camera.
Scoop 0 #5 January 28, 2007 This is true. Stuffed in an inside pocket of your jumpsuit. They make digi cams so slim nowadays I suppose
phoenixlpr 0 #6 January 28, 2007 So why do you need a waterproof camera which can not be operated in free-fall for skydiving?
Scoop 0 #7 January 28, 2007 Damn, Im getting a hard time here. HELP! Just looked good to me. Can use it for other things too. I don't really want a cam for freefall cos I dont want the distraction and I'm not suitably experienced. Just thought it'd be good and secure for under canopy geeking. Having a cam stuffed in your jumpsuit means if you fall over its gonna hurt. You could happily fly your canopy with the vid record turned on too and still be 'handsfree'
mktoson 0 #8 January 28, 2007 Yeah I think that's a piece of crap. If you're going to take pictures under canopy any camera will do. The resolution of your average digital cam will be better than the wrist cam. And you're right, you (that cam) is getting a hard time here. But that's because it sucks. People aren't just going to validate your thinking just because you want them to. So far, this is the oldest I've ever been.
councilman24 37 #9 January 28, 2007 Don't fall over and it won't hurt. It's not just "hands free" that is the issue, it's MIND FREE. You said it, you don't need the distraction. If you have time for this you have time for any camera under canopy. But you have better things to do.I'm old for my age. I used it as a wrist-mounted video camera. I turned it on before I left the plane and turned it off when I landed. I wouldn't ever think of using it as a digital still camera._______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" "Even in freefall, I have commitment issues."
