skreamer 1 #1 March 6, 2001 OK, now that I have your attention here is the deal :I am about to spend a shed-load of money on a jump-suit, bone-head and gear bag. I can no longer afford coaching jumps at $60 a go. I intend jumping from tomorrow until Saturday at Skydance. However according to weather.com,only Wednesday and Saturday look jumpable. The offer : any D-license in the Bay area, call in sick to work tomorrow and meet me at Skydance. I will pay for ALL your jumps for the day. I have been signed off student status, but need some RW jumps towards my A-license. I am attending the quiksilva team in the UK's dirt-dive coaching sessions, so am NOT expecting major coaching from you. Just some good, safe basic fun 2-ways.First person to mail me at skreamer69@hotmail.com wins the jackpot. For your safety and mine I would prefer that you have a D-license./sPS As long as 2 people want to jump, the Cessna at Skydance will go up. If you would like to make a bit of cash you can pack my rig at the standard rate ($5 I believe), so we can get back in the air quickly. A packing lesson would be nice too (at the END of the day), but I can get that in the UK as well.
PLFXpert 0 #2 March 6, 2001 Wow, Skreamer, you are truly generous. However skydivers are all pretty nice and most will be happy to do RW jumps with you w/out you having to pay for their jumps as well as most will also teach you to pack (but not pack for you) for free as well. I'm not discouraging you b/c I'm sure many will LOVE to take you up on your offer but I know that if I had a D-liscense, like you'd prefer, I'd be happy to jump with you and pay my own way. Unfortunately I haven't applied for any of my liscenes yet. I'll get around to applying soon and get my B (since you can't get your C until you do night jumps) b/c I'd like to do night jumps but probably won't apply for C and just wait until D so I don't have to pay for every liscense. This way, you can just take 2 tests at once for the price of 1. But anyways, back to your original proposition, a round of beer at the end of the day will almost always suffice to any skydiver who helps you outMUCH LOVE AND BLUE SKIES!Carrie http://www.geocities.com/skydivegrl20/
tigra 0 #3 March 6, 2001 Carrie, Unless they've changed the license requirements, you should be able to get your C license without doing any night jumps. The night jumps are required for a D license. At least that's how it used to be....And Screamer, Carrie is right, there should be some experienced jumpers out there who would be willing to make some jumps with you without you having to pay for them. If you want coaching, paying someone is not a bad idea, but if you are just looking for fun rw 2 ways you should be able to find a buddy to jump with. Keep in mind that weekdays are slower around most dzs.Have fun and stay safe!
cyberskydive 0 #4 March 6, 2001 your right tigra, night jumps for D lisence, I have a C and havent dome mine yet.D.Chisolm C-28534webmaster@sunraydesigns.comhttp://www.sunraydesigns.com
skreamer 1 #5 March 6, 2001 Carrie, I don't think you quite understand the situation. I flew out to California for a week with only two goals : collect my *new* rig and get as many jumps in as possible. If you lived in London you might understand my desperation to get jumps in. I accept that I am at the mercy of the weather gods (living in London you learn to live with crap weather but not like it). If I am the only jumper at Skydance tomorrow then I will pay double for every jump and it'll be just me and the pilot (all that leg-room just for me!). I got signed off Cat 1 on the 7th of January, I cannot afford to wait for blue skies in the UK (they're about as rare as winning the Reader's Digest sweep-stakes!).That was a sincere offer and I am sorry to say that nobody from northern California has taken me up on it. But then these people probably all earn a fortune working in Silicon Valley and don't need free jump-tickets.How long will it take me to drive to Coolidge? (and I'm not kidding either)/s
cyberskydive 0 #6 March 6, 2001 If you'll come to Georgia (headed back home anyway) I can guarantee you someone to jump with-LOL- probablyD.Chisolm C-28534webmaster@sunraydesigns.comhttp://www.sunraydesigns.com
lummy 4 #7 March 7, 2001 Skreamer,Skydance is where I did my AFF. Unfortunately it's been raining every frickin weekend for the last month so I haven't been there in awhile. There's a girl there who is practicing for her AFF instructor course who would probably jump with you although I don't know if she'd be there tomorrow. Her name's Michelle. The instructors are really good. Neil is awesome as well as Eddie. I'm going up that way tonite and I'll ask a couple of friends of mine if they'd be interested in jumping with you.Have fun and tell me how soggy the barn landings are.Blue SkiesGary
skreamer 1 #8 March 7, 2001 Thanks Gary!It is not that I have a problem with paying $60 per coach jump, I just don't have the money for it right now. I will be at Skydance bright and early tomorrow morning. Man, if I had made this offer in Cape Town, there would be some seriously shit hot skydivers beating a path to my door./s
lummy 4 #9 March 7, 2001 no promises but if everyone decides to show up at work tomorrow (life sucks being a manager), I might just come down with a 24 virus. At least it'll get the Cessna up.
skreamer 1 #10 March 7, 2001 Actually Gary, from the way you are typing it does appear that you are coming down with something...My condition is called 'littlus jumpus' and I really want to cure it.If you make it out tomorrow beers are on me (actually considering it is my first jump in the northern hemisphere and my first jump with own rig - I think I'm going to be buying anyway)./s
jumpergirl 0 #11 March 7, 2001 Skreamer, if you were here, closer to me, I would be more than happy to take you up on your offer. You know I do have my D license and I am looking forward to jumping with, sooner or later! Good luck with your quest and let me know how it works out!! skreamer 1 #12 March 7, 2001 Jumpergirl, I would be honoured to jump with you one day. I have considered driving to Texas, but 25 hours behind the wheel might leave me just a little tired... /s
lummy 4 #13 March 7, 2001 Yeah, I think you're right :) Yes, mr Boss, I think I'm coming down with currencitis. Very rare disease and only 1 known cure. I think it's contagious so I had better not come in today.Hehe.... I think it'll work. Hell I don't care if it does, what are they gonna do, page me? Deleted 0 #16 March 7, 2001 Hehe..I don't think I'd have the balls to tell em that. The good thing about being a single dad is that I always have an excuse to call in sick. "Sorry, my daughter has the flu, can't come in today". Of course, it has backfired on me. I was planning on using that 3 weeks ago to go skydive, but as luck would have it, my daughter DID get sick 2 days beforehand.
Dutchboy 0 #17 March 7, 2001 QuoteIf you'll come to Georgia (headed back home anyway) I can guarantee you someone to jump with-LOL- probablyThis is certainly true. If you are passing through here on your way back I'm sure there are many people who would be happy to jump with you at either Thomaston or Monroe and wouldn't expect a thing from you. Some day (far far away) I want to be a JM and I'd love to teach anyone what little I know. There are many more experienced people who feel the same way.
Hellian 0 #18 March 7, 2001 <>It's been quite nice last few weeks hope it stays that way till you come back, definately jumpable weather today, barely any wind and sweet blue skies all round i keep getting home from college and telling my dad he's driving me 75miles over to Headcorn Ed
wildblue 7 #19 March 7, 2001 Quote your right tigra, night jumps for D lisence, I have a C and havent dome mine yet. Way off topic I know... but night jumps are awesome! You should try one. Remember those "First Jump Jitters"? You'll get those again on your first night jump. Awesome feeling, cool view, calm skies, and scary as hell. :)
PLFXpert 0 #20 March 7, 2001 Wildblue, I hear you....I *really* want to do night jumps but I don't have any of my liscenses yet. I'll get around to it though! Those butterflies come to my tummy ANY time I try something new but call me strange but I like it. It's like you're constantly conquering your own fear so to speak. I've never met anything I wouldn't try...fear to me is a lack of faith so when those butterflies come, it's like, in my opinion, you're proving that you know that your fate is not in your own hands and you're just going to have to trust God (for those of you that believe in that) to only take you when he's ready. Obviously I don't mean you don't need common sense but you get itMUCH LOVE AND BLUE SKIES!Carrie http://www.geocities.com/skydivegrl20/
wildblue 7 #21 March 8, 2001 Depends on a lot of things I guess. I didn't have any trouble finding it. My roommate did though. I don't know why, I guess he just has really REALLY bad night vision. Everyone else on the load (10 I think) made it back just fine. The DZ is far enough away from lights, and we had a few illuminated landmarks to work with. That with 4 strobes around the "X" and the car headlights on it was pretty easy. Be warned though, your depth perception is usually off. Flare high slow and easy. Stacy 0 #22 March 8, 2001 night jumps... not too scary, i thought they were quite peaceful actually. open canopy, full moon usually, it's pretty incredible. landing is interesting. the observers all commented on my strobe bouncing through the peas.... =c) Stacyhttp://astro.temple.edu/~sweeks
