make sure your rig is tight, i.e. flaps won't come undone, good riser covers, BOC or pull-out, tight spandex pocket if BOC,some reccomend against hackey handles for freeflying. wear an audible and visual alti and a cypress (high speed collisions are more common in freeflying because of higher speeds obtained). have fun!
pull low, it's higher than you think

Dont be afraid to become humble...it is a whole different style and it takes a little to get used to. It's really fun so it's not a very daunting task to learn because you are having so much fun. Get some coached jumps and learn the different safety procedures, there are a few things that you really need to be aware of. Go for it!!!

Good advice!
Also, when you are new to it and totally crap (like me) make sure that you ONLY jump with guys who are really experienced. If only one other guy jumping with you has the same lack of experience as you, the results could be disastrous. I felt really safe at Skydance because the guys I jumped with all knew I was the newbie and jumped accordingly. I was a lot more relaxed and open to trying new stuff as a result.
