First Sit-Fly!!

Recommended Posts

woohoo! Saturday was windy at the DZ, steady 20 mph with gusts above and beyond...so I sat until later, and the winds died down to like 15 with gusts of 20 so I manifested for the sunset load. The entire Otter load was comprised of people doing a sunset tracking dive. They invited me to go more than once but I don't feel comfortable with my tracking yet and didn't want to be part of a ZOO dive! So I did a solo. There were two other solos, both women. I dove out third and just played around doing offheading flips and flying on my back which is just too fun! Then, I attempted a sit, and rolled over on my right side. Tried it again, and BAM! I had it!!! Held it for 3 seconds! I tried it a couple more times but rolled over each time. Still I got one for a couple secs! I also worked on my tracking and discovered how simple it is NOT to go in circles...!
Had a hard opening but otherwise, an absolutely beautiful sunset and it wasn't even cold! :)I won't tell you guys about the safety seminars afterwards...that story is for another day! (damn kegs!)
Blue Ones,
Sis

Sis -
Welcome to the world of instability! If you're next dozen or so jumps are anything like my first attempts at freeflying you'll discover that its OK to fall back to earth, spinning, twisting, etc. as you try to get stable and then control (adjusting fall rate, forward motion, turning). The control is still a mystery to me. :)
Wanna have fun - lock legs with somebody on exit - you'll probably flip / twist / turn a bunch but its a lot of fun. I've found that it helps if you get your arms way back if your docked in a sit exit.
Just remember to arch and get stable to deploy! :)

Congrats, Sis. Oh wait, I forgot you are from the warring state of Texas. :)Sitflying is cool. I've been working on my sits lately (but not this weekend). When it finally clicks and you get it right that is the greatest feeling. Now if I can just get the cartwheels down I'll be ready for some real fun: head down.

Well, whaddya know, the sista gotta taste of sit. Isnt it sweet. I must have done about 15-20 flailing dives before I started to get stable in sit. I do recommend getting some coached dive, they help soooo much. Anyway, congrats. Before you know it, you'll be doing 5-way horny gorilla exits and sit/stand the rest of the way down.
Keep em safe.

Kick A** Sis!!! I can definitely relate.... I haven't attempted a sit yet, but this weekend I had an AMAZING jump. we got up extremely early to catch a sun-rise load (very very cool).... we were just going to do a simple 3-way star exit then just a few centerpoint turns & re-dock. Well, all that sure went to hell the minute we stepped off the plane! LOL I'm still not quite sure what happened on exit (if it was my fault or the other low-timer), but it funneled a bit... and sure nuf' a second later we found ourselves in a 3-way head-down... we held it for about 7 secs or so then broke away (it's actually probably the first time I ever heard anybody "WOOOHOOO" in freefall). LOL It was awesome, for the rest of the dive we just re-docked our 3-way star then tracked away & deployed... it was really beautiful, there was a bunch of storm cells moving in below us at about 2,000agl just before exit (stormy-industrial haze that is)... FREAKY!!!
I love it when things just fall in to place... we couldn't do that again if we tried (well, I couldn't).LOL Only got that one jump, but that made the weekend, plus our coach just told us that Pam & I will get to jump together in about a month, so that just made it even better! :)Anyway, congrats on the sit, I can't wait to try it myself!

Hey all --
First official post on the new site -- BEER !!
(thanks, Sangiro, for building a crutch for my hopelessly out-dated compooter !)
I've done some sit-fly on my last 2 jumps. The first came about by accident - somehow, I got half-way thru my backloop and just stopped in a sit position, and actually held it for about 4-5 seconds. Then on the next jump I TRIED to get in that position again, and it was back-belly-back-belly-side-headdown-etc... all over the place. When I did hold it the first time, it felt pretty good....now i just have to figure out how I did it ! I was really surprised on how fast I was falling -- I got cold feet and went back to belly-down at about 6000 ft, and it was like hitting a wall !
Also, will be buying my first rig in the next couple of weeks -- I'm 6' 1", 215 lbs. If anybody's got a 230-250 sq ft main in a rig that will fit, shoot me an e-mail.
