OK, for the sake of argument lets say that you use a wrist mounted mirror exactly as you describe - you track away from a formation, flare out of your track, check your mirror and then see someone above you... What then? You've already stopped tracking. You've now limited your options - the primary one is now sucking it low. Way to go! You will not be able to get back into an effective track and avoid someone simply because you need time and distance to build up the speed to do so. Seriously, I'm curious what you think you'll do if you see someone above you in your wrist-mirror at 2500ft?

billvon 3,091 #113 February 21, 2007 >Just roll over to see if anyone is above you and the need for a wave off is taken care of. This is absolutely untrue, and is a very dangerous piece of advice to give. Waveoff isn't for you - it's for the people near you (who may not even be above you yet) to tell them you are about to pull. I don't care how good a barrel roller you think you are - you're still not going to see someone at your six o'clock just above you. A waveoff is essential before the pull to warn other jumpers that they are about to see your canopy.
hookitt 1 #114 February 21, 2007 I knew that was coming. The pilot chute usually gets tossed unannounced without regard to what's around me. Poof! I'm a hazard if you ask me. Note the emoticon to indicate that was not a serious response. Of course I do. If people are anywhere near me they know I'm pulling. If anyone actually believed that, please, sell your gear to someone with a clue and get the hell out of the sport. I was wondering who would be first to bite. From PM's I've received, people DO believe things like that. I got a PM recently asking me if it was true that everyone in the 400-way was required to barrel roll before pulling, and should they be practicing that. So I am very careful nowadays to identify what's bad/sarcastic advice.

That is up too you, but there are people here using old rented big canopies edited to add: Seriously: I think you are unsafe here. I really do not care how you open your canopy because you do not jump with us (hope so) If you are used to opening that way the jumpers before you would need mirrors to spot you.
