SpeedRacer 1 #1 March 16, 2001 Well, on the Introductions thread we seemed to be getting off on a tangent about beer. So I thought I'd start a new thread, it being the day before St. Patrick's Day. A few points of conversation:1) Any other homebrewers out there? That was one of my favorites hobbies Before Skydiving. (Hey there's a new acronym for the part of your life before you did your first skydive: BS!)2) In addition to those little yellow smiley faces, I think we should get Sangiro to put in a markup logo for beer. Maybe a little frosty mug icon or something.Well, it's about 5:00 PM on Friday here in the Eastern US, so for all you Brits it must be around 11:00 PM, correct me if I'm wrong. What are you drinking? (Or do the pubs still all close at 11:00?)Speed Racer"Blue Skies, Red eyes, Sore thighs!"
Greg 0 #2 March 16, 2001 I would have to say, one of the best micro brews I have had is a "chili beer" brewed at the satisfied frog in cave creek, az. it has a real smooth flavor and you get a chili peper to boot. whats really cool is that it is not real hot or anything, just a different flavor. and no "arizona jalipeno fire", that is, no after burn in the fundamental orrafice. skreamer 1 #3 March 16, 2001 Or how about crazy ed's original cave creek chili beer?Brewed and bottled by Black Mountain Brewing. Discovered it in Arizona beginning of last year and HOOOOOOO, will this stuff put a sting in your ring!!!/s
skreamer 1 #4 March 16, 2001 PS Speedracer, it has only just gone 10h16pm here in London. Yes, the pubs still close at 11pm, but I had to leave the pub early because management joins us on a Friday evening and one of them was being a real dick (coming from me that says a lot). Anyway, right now I am sipping on some Chivas (neat of course) - it was a present, I don't often get whiskey this good.../s

Greg 0 #6 March 16, 2001 Cant tralk about beer and not mention the good ole beer bong!! There is one floating around the drinking crowd I hang with that has been around for years, it is the single nastiest thing I have ever put in my mouth!!I can remember the worst beer bong I ever did, my brother thought it would be funny to put a raw clam in my beer bong just before I finished it. It was funny for a minute or two, but the "rainbow" of fresh cold beer and a chunk of clam that came flying out after that, I thought, was quite a bit funnier!!! I was nominated to represent our group. I chugged two whole Yuengling Lagers , provided by myself, and as I was about to finish, the bong operator added a warm can of Miller High Life. I kept it all down. Epiglottis of iron, baby!!!!P.S. the raw clam still wins. -Patkat
Iflyme 0 #9 March 17, 2001 QuoteMiller High Life That is not "beer" - that's "malt liquor"... Miller doesn't make any real beer... not trying to insult you or Miller, but as we have discussed in these threads on previous occasions, real Beer is brewed following the Barvarian Purity Law of 1516. Only ingrediants are hops, barley, yeast, and water. The Miller Brewing Company does NOT adhere to that standard!Frank (loves his "beer" almost as much as the skydive that precedes it)
Zach 0 #10 March 17, 2001 Sreamer,Incidentally, do you like 1664 (Kronenburgh I think it was called). I lived in London for six months a couple years ago, and it was always my favorite. Of course I was nineteen, and hadn't really cut my beer drinking teeth yet. I've looked all over here, and can't get it anywhere.
skreamer 1 #11 March 17, 2001 Yeah, Kronenbourg - it is also a really excellent beer (sold as Premium along with Stella, not like the cheap Aussie crap). If you ever get a chance, try 'Leffe' - it is a very dry Belgian white cider. Very expensive, but damn it is good. /s
Patkat 0 #12 March 17, 2001 QuoteThat is not "beer" - that's "malt liquor"... Miller doesn't make any real beer...My point exactly. The switch from a fine local brew such as Yuengling to swill like Miller "you must be High if you like it" Life was horrific. I can't believe that I kept that all down.-patkat
