I need a psyciatrist

Recommended Posts

It’s been almost two years since I’ve seen the world from the perspective that all you cool people see it from. I want to jump again more than anything in life. Yet I sit here browsing the forum on the sidelines, drinking beer and smoking cigarettes in front of my computer. I know in my head that the answer to all my problems (too numerous too mention outside of a 1000 page book) is to stand in that door once again and say “F**k it, see ya world!” and just go, but why don’t I do it? (I don’t mean the f..k it thing in a suicidal way, I totally intend to pull, the canopy ride is half the fun!) I’ve been struggling with that question for so long it’s become intolerable. I’ve talked to friends, I’ve talked to my parents, I’ve even talked to co-workers that I hardly know, and when I mention that skydiving is what I really want to do, they totally dismiss it. They don’t say I’m crazy, they just totally dismiss it is random babbling, what the hell is wrong with them?!?! That’s why I’m here. I’ve been reading the forum for almost a month and a half, and it’s been a great relief to me. Finally some people who know why people jump out of perfectly good airplanes (the door was open, what the hell else are you going to do, just sit there and look at it?) I don’t want to be just one of those people who just sit on the side and just observe what everybody else is doing. You guys rule! (I mean guys and girls!) Anyway, if anybody is feeling really hot headed about anything and needs to vent, I sure could use a major (major, major, major) kick in the ass to get me moving toward the nearest DZ (Hutchinson, MN, way out in dem dar boondocks!)

Dirtsucks.
this is your online mother speaking and i expect full cooperation~ GET YOUR ASS OUT TO THAT DZ AND GET YOURSELF MANIFESTED! WHEN THE MAKE THE 20 MINUTE CALL YOU HAD BETTER BE GEARED UP. I EXPECT YOU TO BE READY TO BOARD THAT PLANE BY THE FIVE MINUTE CALL! AND WHEN IT COMES TIME TO GET ON THE DAMNED THING, YOU HAD BETTER BE FIRST IN LINE. FOR THE ENTIRE RIDE YOU WILL SIT IN THAT PLANE AND ENJOY IT! AND YOU HAD BETTER BE READY TO EXIT WHEN THE PIOLOT SAYS SO! HE TAKES OVER FOR ME FROM THE TIME THE PLANE TAXIS DOWN THAT RUNWAY UNTIL THE TIME YOU JUMP! AND YOU HAD BETTER HAVE A GREAT TIME BECAUSE IF YOU DONT THEN I EXPECT YOU TO KEEP JUMPING UNTIL YOU DO! GOODNIGHT SON, I THINK THAT I HAVE SAID ENOUGH.

Thanks mommy! I know it’s weird but I just need to hear it from somebody else. And you want me to be first in line by 5 minute call? I’d hate to be the sorry ass that tries to get in front of me! But seriously, though, I’m trying desperately, (read: considering bank robbery) to get the funds to get through AFF. I’ve reached the level of being pathetic to admit that I need help to make this happen, but make no mistake, I haven’t given up hope for one millisecond. I will jump, that’s totally a given as far as I’m concerned, the hard part is wondering how long I’ll have to wait. But I’ll be here with you all as long as it takes. Blue Skies!!

Hey Dirtsucks,
You may feel like you're sitting on the sidelines, but never forget you are a skydiver, and will be for the rest of your life. I've had struggles as far as getting myself back to the DZ, and I've done it. After a several month layoff, I made a jump late last summer and when I hit the ground and was gathering up my big-ass student chute I just started laughing out loud. No one was near me, no one could see or hear what I was doing, but I was just so happy, and so full of life, that I burst out laughing. Whuffos never get it when I tell them that, but I'm sure you do. Get your ass back in the sky and you'll be smiling the whole way down. It may not solve all your problems, but it'll sure as hell put them in perspective.
Good luck and blue skies,
Dan

Hey Dirtsucks
I got scared off after my 3rd FF in April 1993 - IT TOOK ME 7 YEARS TO GET THE BALLS TO TRY AGAIN!!! So, firstly stop being so hard on yourself and just relax about it. Secondly, take baby steps. Not necessarily skydiving steps either. For me it was doing 2 bungi jumps (where you can't screw up, all you have to do is fall). Then maybe do a tandem or two, no pressure on you to pull, you can just remember how good it feels and maybe that will motivate you through AFF. Lack of money is no excuse, I don't smoke (we WON'T go into that little Vietnam again), but i would give up drinking, my computers, my DVD collection, a kidney, anything I own to keep jumping. Prioritize, dude, prioritize.
here endeth the pop psychology lesson

Dirtsucks, if you need funds, maybe you could see if they need packers at your dz. Then you can be near the skydiving scene, which is therapeutic in its own way, in addition to banking some cash for aff. Plus you can learn a lot from others just by hanging out, and be even more ahead of the game when you do start your training. Packing is a great way to pay for your jumps, and is the only reason I am not flat on my ass broke due to skydiving expenses.

Don’t you need to be a rigger or something to pack somebody else’s chute? I don’t know how it works, but if I had the experience necessary to pack canopies, then I just might give it a shot. Problem is, how does one get that experience? And BTW, thanks to everybody who responded to my post. I’ve gotten so sick of people who I thought were friends telling my how crazy I was for wanting to jump out of airplanes and listening to the boring opinions of other ways I should “waste” my money. Just yesterday one of my best friends suggested I should buy a “real” car so I could get chicks and then he could tag along and hopefully get chicks. I’m just going to shut up now or else risk making the longest post in the history of human civilization. Whuffos just don’t get it!

The regulations say that if you aren't packing your own parachute, you have to be a rigger or be supervised by one. But hardly anyone follows that regulation. At our dz, tandem packers get free training, and are supervised on unpaid pack jobs until the rigger is satisfied that they are doing it correctly. Then they get signed off, and are allowed to pack unsupervised. And at $10 a tandem, $5 a sport/student rig, you'll have your aff saved up for before you know it. I'm not sure how it works at your dz, but it definately wouldn't hurt to ask. Hell, you should just go hang out for a weekend even if you won't be jumping. It'll keep you from going bonkers like you are now!

I successfully ended the longest layoff from jumping since I started recently, WTF was I thinking staying away for so long??? (9 months) Feel like I am starting all over again -LOL.
GET YOUR ASS TO THE DZ_LOL
Pack, wash planes, cut grass, whatever but if you wanna jump-there is always a way!!
I bought my first rig from pack jobs, paid for jumps from pack jobs, bought jumpsuits etc. It helps now that I'm writing the new site for my home DZ, but I still pack some, if only to pay for jumps(and hopefully those 40 tandems show up monday thru -thursday-LOL)
If you wanna jump, get off yur tail, go to the dz, find out what you need to do, and freakin do it bro!!!!

Whuffos just don’t get it!

Ain't that the truth! But then again, they wouldn't be whuffos if the DID get it - they'd be SKYDIVERS!!! ;) Josh, I'm glad you found Sangiro's website... it's been a great place for me (and everyone else here) to keep in touch with the skydiving community when I'd otherwise be stuck in whuffo-land!

Being an uncurrent skydiver myself, I find myself questioning myself alot also...how can I love something so much...and not do it. I mean I can talk skydiving for hours, worse lol for the rest of my life, and I know that I will. Even if I'm not on a load, there's something about just being at a dz, seeign the chutes and hearing them open and fly through the air...it totally completes me ...lol oh God it's the Jerry Maguire line. I feel sorry for any guy, lol will have to come second to jumping lol sad but true. I know I realyl am a newbiw up in the air...alittle over a hundred jumps and not one single jump have I made where I don't have thei cheesey ear to ear smile onmy face...so DIRTSUCKS all I have to say, is get back in the air...surround yourself with jumper friends lol cause that's how I stray...I'm the only one out of my friends who jumps...makes it hard at times, I know that seems dumb lol. What I love though is when I go back to jumping everyone remembers me and asks where I have been...the answer is always the same, doesn't matter I'm back...there is NO good excuse for not jumping lol...and yes I will be joining the skies this weekend...so please refrain from whuffo comments to me lol

BITE ME.... :P

It is like the Nike comercials say "Just DO it"> I don't have the cash for a new rig but I found a way to get it. I couldn't really do my AFF as fast as I wanted but I found a way. I can really... but I found a way. If you totally commit to it you will find a way. Decide that you will and accept no excuses
