BenW 0 #26 March 7, 2001 Hey MikeD!!Glad to see someone else out there has a 'sensible' form of transport! I myself drive a 1983 5door Range Rover. She's an old beauty! Comfy, fast and great for offroading over in the Welsh 'mountains'. Manual box too! 4speed box with overdrive. Mines one of the last before they got the 5 speed box and became less agricultural - which is what I like about it! YEAH, Landrover products!!Ben
wingnut 0 #27 March 7, 2001 okay,i'll have to chime in here. i drive a 1984 bmw that i payed $200 for to a guy that needd to sell it quick. i replaced the exhaust, batery and winshield washer pump. other than that it runs fine. i drove it to switzerland a few weeks ago and it ran fine!!! i like it alot. it's so much easier to take my rig 10 miles to the dz in it than straped to my back on my motorcycle. plus now i can say i owned a "BMW" even though it a peice of shit car...howed that song go......<>

ColdDuck 0 #29 March 21, 2001 I don't mean to brag but from the time I got my drivers license until alst summer I drove a 1984 Chevy station Wagon Lt. Blue. It was the blue torpedo. The good side was that it was free ( my grandma couldn't drive it anymore). It got like 40mpg. And most of all it would go through anything. I would drive through corn and bean fields with if, that how we used to hunt in high school ( after they were harvested of course) I must have ran into thousands of snow banks with it . I even won a race one time with it ( No I;m serious). But this summer it crapped out on me one day (big suprise). So about a week later I fianlly got a nice vehicle I bought a brand new 2001 Ford Ranger 4x4.Of Course this was 2 weeks before I started skydiving. Looking back on it if I could have known I was going to start skydiving would I have bought this truck ? Never in a million years.

FreeflyPlaymate 0 #33 March 21, 2001 as far as ADAM SANDLER songs go...I will have to say whatever song you are talking about it probably doesn't hold a candle to the almighty At a Medium Pace lol My girlfriends and I pump it whenever we go to Havasue or Laughlin...lol it is just hilarious. And as far as my car? I've had a couple different sweet Chevy trucks over the years lol yeah I am so old lol my last one was lifted almost a foot on 38's it was sweet. However...jumping off the top of it just isn't the same as jumping out of a plane...I'm selling it right now. I actually want to go back to my very first car...a '73 VW THING...when I origally got it it was orange and actually in awesome condition...I completely rebuilt the engine and painted it yellow, inside AND out lol...sliding windows, new seats, and a spiffy PA system in it...and a lisence plate frame dubbing my name...LiL Miss Thang....lol yes yes I am a winner thanks lol. I am sure I'll be getting another Thing this time around...**BLUE ONES**BITE ME.... :P
Cacophony 0 #34 March 22, 2001 I have a '87 Honda Accord LXI Hatchback. I love it. In 2 years I have already blown the transmission, replaced the master cylinder, replaced the alternater and exhaust system, fixed my front axel twice, replaced a missing bolt in my engine, and went through about 8 tires. I know that there is more but I just can't think of it right now. Inspite of all of that, I still love the car. The engine runs great!Safe landings,Alex D-something
jtval 0 #35 March 22, 2001 care, you know i got the van NOW!!! but before i got that ....well let me start with how i got my '78 mercury couger(pimp mobiles, if you dont knowwhat they look like)long story short...i lent my nice 78 grand prix to my mom when her car died....she wrecked my car in record time.here's where the story starts; (ill try to keep it short so ill leave out as much as i can.it was navy black.(ulgiest sob i'e ever seen)it ran good...with the exception of every thirty feet.it was cut out, i'd lose all power, all steering, and most of my brakes. but if i pumped the gas it would start up again. i lost my keys in the city(ny) when i was working with the demolishion job. (on my b-day) so after a 15 hr day i realize, i gotta get this thing started. so i ripped out the ignition switch and used a screwdriver for a key from that piont on.windshield wipers??? i dont even remember if they were on the car. oil spurted out all over the engine from below the carb. etc etc. i could tell you bout some of the near misses i had wiuth it but id be here all night...i know what youre goin' thru care, but it'll make for some good conversation.(well, i guess it already hasLOL)have funJT
MarkF 0 #36 March 22, 2001 An '83 rangie eh ???? I've got, or rather it's got me, an '82 rangie with BRAND ENW ENGINE, well a couple.....few....perhaps several thousand k's on it. The REAL reason for the engine transplant is that classic pre 5 speed RRs that have done HIGH milage have a tendency, a STRONG tendency, to drop the rear big end. With loud results that stop you from getting to the DZ...grumble...grumble. By high milage I mean anything with more'n about 200,000 k's. Mine had over a million k's and was about 250,000 from the last ring 'n bearing job.Anyway my beast... I s'pose I could just go outside and take a picture of the junior oil well that's growing in the back yard. I could show you that there is not one good suspension rubber in the thing. If I showed you the brake disks you'd accuse me of all sorts of stupidity, and rightly so...yeah, yeah I'll get to it...:-) The steering's got some slack in it but not _too_ much. It's the most fuel efficient vehicle on the market. i.e. It drinks vast quantities of premium fuel very, VERY quickly, providing that the Lucas fuel pump is awake. The electrics are by Lucas P.O.D. (Prince Of Darkness) which means that the car is always about to :- Stall for one of an enormous number of electrical reasons. Go very dark, preferably at speed (joke,,,:-) ) at night. The rangie hasn't had the LR instrument panel (another JOKE) type of fire yet but I bet Lucas put one in there just for fun...:-) I've had the bastard since new and have been abusing it ever since. I've just about got it to the point where I like it. i.e. Just like what I traded in for the RR. A LR SIIa. Couldn't get that stuck either. It only ever broke down once too in nearly a million k's over shit outback "Roads" and """Highways""".Oh and I've got a Rover P6 ( it's a REAL ex panda car Mike...:-) cost a fortune to ship it here...:-) ) that's gradually making it's way to concors condition...OorooMark F... miked10270 0 #37 March 23, 2001 Hey Mark,A P6! Brilliant!! is it the "S" model with the manual 'box? As for the Range-Rover... I've got Turbo-Diesels in both my Landy's. OK, maybe the out & out power ain't there, but 28-34mpg is A LOT BETTER than 9-16mpg. Plus the engines go on & on & on & on..... If you do go that way, get the BIGGEST intercoler you can lay hands on... the "full width intercoolers do make a big difference to both power (torque) & economyGood luck with the P6.Mike D10270. Deleted 0 #38 March 23, 2001 QuoteA P6! Brilliant!! is it the "S" model with the manual 'box? . Oh BTW... If you're refurbishing it can I suggest cutting & patching a hatch in the boot floor so you can actually get at the back brake pads?Mike,Yep a 3500 "S" DAMN hard to track dowon a goodish example with an intact gearbox. (the output bearing housing twists..:-( )That's one of a number of reasons I went with an ex candy car to restore. The police had Rover make all sorts of usefull mods and because Rover made the mods it's acceptable for concors events. If I was to make the same mods the car would be struck out as it has non-original non-manufacturer mods. The rear brake problem was solved, the BODY ROLL was reduced to non panic inducing proportions and the had air conditioning fitted......For use in London...Oh well perhaps there's something I don't understand...:-)I started out early with british cars, I started with a Hillman Minx and it went A-90, Vogue, Cooper S (woohoo), Rover 75, Rover 90, VW Golf (...????), LR and RR. Since the S brick I've always had a P6 or two about the place in various stages of (dis)repair. IMO it's THE definitive British car. Much more so than a Roller (although I wouldn't say no). I'm getting used to pulling the whole car apart to empty the ashtray...:-)OorooMark F...
