SLIDERS

Recommended Posts

no not the tv show- those big flappy things above your head under canopy.

How do you stow your slider?
collapse it and leavve it
collapse it and pull it down past your toggles
Mine is collapsible but I leave it alone
Mine is collapsible but I cant reach it
Mine is not collapsible
WTF are you talking about?

what kind of collapsable do you have Pammi???
If you have the kind with the two lines, I have seen some riggers here lengthen the line to make it easier for them to reach.
I might be wrong but there is prolly some other things you might wanna check like how tight your legstraps are, possibly the length of you main lift web too(you wont be able to change that), but I'm no rigger and if you bought the rig used (sized for someone else) than maybe one day you can reach it-LOL(when you get a rig sized for you.)
Someone shoot me if I'm blatantly wrong-LOL
Maybe this should be in the gear forum??

Pammi,
I couldn't reach my slider and it was beating the #$%^ out if my bumpers. After a few different suggestions from riggers, including shorter risers, I went with soft links. The slider was hanging up by the bumpers and just out of reach. The soft links solved the problem for me. Ask a rigger about them- they can be easily installed, and not too expensive. PD now makes them, they are called "slinks".
Also, someone told me that the shorter risers have smaller toggle handles, which I don't think I'd like.

Hey now Merrick! LOL!
Thanks guys...I'll say something to the rigger at my DZO and see what he thinks. I just assumed that I was SOL since I was so short *shrug* Does stowing the slider make a big difference? The kind that is on it right now is one with velcro.

I also got soft links to solve my not reachable slider problem. It's great now and I'm sure my lines are taking much less of a beating cuz I can pull the slider all the way down now. HUGE difference. Slinks go for about 30 with rigger installation.

I collapse my slider, and pull it down over the connector links(where the riser attaches to the lines), but no further.. A good friend of mine used to pull his down as far as he could, and ended up having it bind one of his steering lines.. At 100ft he had one toggle stick at 1/2 brakes.. Not a big deal, but it could've been bad.. Not a problem with Type 17 risers, but can be an issue with Type 8 sometimes I guess..
