Just wondering if superstition plays a big role in anyones skydiving life? What sort of rituals or superstitions do you follow before a jump? Anything for good luck.

there was a thread about this very same topic about a week or two ago....
my superstition is red. i have to have something red on. whether it be a sweatshirt, underware.. whatever. Im gonna have to buy more red clothes. lots more jumps this season! whippeee! yahhooooO!

i usually like to eat a chili cheese burrito w/ three packets of fire sauce b4 i jump just so the plane ride is more fun.

I've heard about some people being nervous on jump #13!! Soemone even posted that they logged it as "jump 12A"!! It's weird. There are even some hotels even today that list the 13th floor as Floor 12A. Weird. I've never figured why people go in for that sort of thing.
When I did jump #13, the superstition thing never even occurred to me. I just don't do superstitions, I guess.

Except that I believe that running out of beer on the weekend when it's too late to get to the liquor store is very bad luck.

I say a prayer for protection in the plane before every jump.
This prayer is normally said before someone drives somewhere, and the theory is that it will keep you behind an accident by the amount of time that it takes you to say it.
So anyway that's what I do.

Oh, yeah, I do that. I didn't count that as a superstition, but yes, I always say a prayer on the ride to altitude. I started doing that with my very first jump, when I was scared. Even though I'm not scared anymore, I still do it. And probably always will.

Well, it's not superstition, but when on jump run, I ALWAYS reach out to the jumpers around me, touch their hand(s), look them in the eye and smile.......

Ya know. 13 seems to be a lucky number for me. I can't tell you how many good things have happened with respect to a 13. My first big job offer was on a Fri. 13th. It's weird.

Each jump after I'm under canopy I look back up at what I just got a taste of, and I wink.
But I wouldn't call that a superstitition, just a habit...kind of like how I HAVE to honk my horn twice if I go under a tunnel with lights in it...

I picked up the same habit from a rigger that is also a tandem instructor...I was on jump run once (at about 25 jumps) and he did that to me...andI can truthfully say, it changed the skydive...set me at ease and made me feel like someone was there that cared...So yeah, I picked up on it and even if it doesn't set someone else at ease, it helps me...does this count as a superstition??

A LITTLE GAY? My friend there hasn't been one jumprun over at Perris OR Elsinore where at least half the load doesn't do that to eachother....I guess southern California is GAY then too lol...wait they don't look into my eyes, they stare at the twins...nevermind lol...no but really, the jumpers out here do that...me included ...I'm not gay...but I have had, wait nevermind...
