cloud9 0 #29 March 24, 2001 Just watched the program thought they did pretty good with the skydivers. What did the rest of the world think. Of course my prespective is beer induced but still isn't that how most of see things?some fun eh! The cloud
Zennie 0 #30 March 24, 2001 Did I just see positive press for us and our sport? Did I actually see a sincere (and remarkably accurate) portrayal of who we are, why we do this and how safe our sport is?Somebody pinch me.Seriously though, kudos to TLC for putting together a well-researched, objective and entertaining documentary. Got me all excited to go jumping tomorrow! ------------Blue Skies!Zennie
froggie 0 #31 March 24, 2001 i missed it! i had to go on an ambulance call. I even had to leave my rope rescue class a little early since im on duty! darn. well, ill be waiting for the 2am repeat episode. sometimes they do that. froggie
Craig 0 #32 March 24, 2001 I thought it was a positive episode and enjoyed watching it. Good footage and I found the tidbits from the psychologists interesting as well. Finally a show that does not give the impression that we are crazed fearless maniacs who are trying to kill ourselves.Quoteill be waiting for the 2am repeat episode. sometimes they do that.I think it will re-air at 1:00AM EST on TLC. It is going to be on again tonight but not exactly sure what time.Craig
Pammi 0 #33 March 24, 2001 My only problem with the show was in the beginning they talked about it being a 'male' 'testostrone' thing...there was even a woman in the class! Hmph. If I were being objective, I'd mention that they said that's the 'steretypical skydiver' (male) and men DO dominate the sport, but c'mon! Pammi
Zennie 0 #34 March 24, 2001 Quotein the beginning they talked about it being a 'male' 'testostrone' thing...I kind of got the impression that they brought it up to dispell it, but I'll have to watch it again. In any event, they seemed to focus on dopamine as the main "stimulant" chemical. Makes sense to me.Hek, I got jacked up just watching the stuff. Thanks Pavlov! ------------Blue Skies!Zennie
Pammi 0 #35 March 24, 2001 You could be right Zen...I'd had a 'couple' of beers at that point and 'someone' kept talking :) I didn't tape it! How stupid is that?! You'll have to let me know what it was exactly they said...Pammi(...and as Merrick said...I kinda like not being 'the norm' anyway! Never was, so why start now?!
 Greg 0 #36 March 24, 2001 I watched, it was pretty good. I thought the end was pretty good when the two AFF students got to jump. The one guy with the long hair busted me up!! He looked just like my bro on his first, all stiff and evrything. Then just goes blank, aaaahhh, I remember that feeling, how did he say it "like a raccoon in headlights" lol.Kudos to TLC on that one!Blue ones!!
 jtval 0 #37 March 24, 2001 hey,i taped it(didnt watch it yet though) but i saw pieces of it. the dopamine part kinda got me disargeeing a little.they say we(thrill seekers) produce less of it on the norm so we seek out the feelling. ok i agree with that but then they said that bc we (us) have a lower amount, on the norm, that we aren't thrilled with evreyday life. i kinda disagree with that.although i would ALWAYS rather be skydiving. i have fun doing all kinza other things too. like i said i just caught pieces of it...did i misinterpret. or are they saying we are bored to death unless we're seeking thrills?! lolJT
 froggie 0 #38 March 24, 2001 Hey! I was actually able to catch the ENTIRE episode, even though I was on ambulance duty. I thought that it was great. But i gotta agree wiht pammi about the whole guy thing.fruce, did you catch Rob Stanleys shot on there? oh man, i was friggin surprised as hell that that clip from the faster '99 vid made it on there. So proud of my little canadian buddie :)But anyway, the show was great. and right before that they did a show on deadly sports or something. well, they showed clips of people getting really hurt/dying while racing horses, riding motorcycles, dirt bikes, all types of sports. but, when they showed the clips of the basejumpers, there were no injuries. They even said "but fortuantly this story has a happy ending, nobody got hurt" or something like that. Point being, they showed people getting injuried for every sport, but not base jumping. thanks zennie for letting us know about this!
