The most rememberable jump

Recommended Posts

i want to hear about those jumps or jump days that you will never forget.
Mine was on January 9, 2001, my 30th birthday. An instructor from our AFF school in Perris (the calmest, coolest dude who flew)picked my two buddies and myself up at the Santa Monica airport in a Cessna around 8 in the morning. We then had a beautiful flight to Perris with an exciting landing in the fog. After landing (and kissing the ground)I got up in the air within a half hour and did my AFF graduation jump. What a morning I will never forget. The school's owner was worried about the landing field (it had rained for the past 2 days) so he wanted me to land in the grass. He also wanted me on radio (which stopped after jump 4)to "guide me to a landing in the grass." After a very fun graduation jump with Mooley, I am coming in for a landing on the grass (which is reserved for licensed divers, so I am busting with smiles) and one of the jumpmasters, Ed, comes on the radio. He says, "Here is my advice after 20 yrs of skydiving (something like that), don't fuck up!" I am coming in for the landing waiting for more important advice and realized after a second none more was coming. I laughed my ass off coming in for a landing at about 200 feet. Well, I missed the end of the grass landing strip by about 10 feet. All Ed could say to me while slapping me on the back was, "Why didn't you cut away so you could land on the grass?"
Great day. Did 2 more fun jumps after that and flew back to Santa Monica with my friends watching the sun sink away.
A great birthday, one I will never forget!
I have the best friends!

First jump, just plain fun, second jump, same day, while in plane "why am i doing this again?"
Fun, Fun, Fun!

but the first one was the best, cause i was sooooo HIGH! man i was dizzy from all the chems my body was producing!
i am glad i don't get that way now, or i would prolly kill myself, but that tandem was awesome...i could see from one coast of florida to the other in freefall
each jump i make though is awesome, because i lived and i can jump again :)sis

venwood,
this is gonna sound funny but all four of my jobs have been great for a different reason. THe first one was awesome just because it was my first. The second jump was awesome cause of my JM, camera flyer, and my friend were so much fun in freefall. The third one was awesome cause it was a sunset load. THe fourth one, my first solo, was awesome cause of the whole thing but especially the landing. I loved that landing. :) and i learned a lot from it too.

My most memorable jump was the first jump that the head down thing clicked.. Sunset load.. Two-way sitfly exit, worked it into a stand, then decided to try it head down.. Transitioned head down, and nailed it.. My buddy (after wiping the shocked look off his face) transitioned head down, flew in close, and docked.. We kept it for about 15 seconds, then it was time for breakoff.. I was feeling so good, and the spot was perfect, so I took it down to 2k.. Sweet opening, made a few spirals, turned downwind, made my best ever front riser turn to final, got a bit of turf-surf, and put it in the peas.. God it was a beautiful dive..
Oh, then of course the beer light came on.. [drunkenfunnyface] Oh, that one's not set up yet..

How can one find just ONE. I can think of so many. My first stable 10 second freefall, my first 2-way sit, the first time I did this and that. Way too many to list.
They are all soo cool.
I just did three awesome jumps today. I was jumping a camera helmet without the camera for practice before I start jumping with one. I had one of the coolest 2-way freefly dives I have ever had and all three jumps were awesome as far as accuracy. One was a deadcenter, the other 1 ft from deadcenter and the third about 5ft from dead center.
This is the coolest sport EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going with the group on this one. How can you pick just one. The first jump is always one or why would we all come back. Thenthe first release jump where you are flying alone for the first time is like taking your first step. Your first sucessful RW and freefly.
HOwever, I think that the best is yet to come for me. This weekend I am going to make a jump with my friend who is finally finishing his A licence. Then the next day the three friends who started this adventure together are finally going to get to do a 3way. I think that will be the best jump ever just being in the air with all three of us.
The Ultimate would have to be the like 30 way that we will have to do at the DZ.com boggie if it gets put together. That will be one that goes up on the wall.

I've had a couple that really stick out over the others.
The first was my FS1 graduation jump - a 4 point 4 way. I was pretty nervous, worried about screwing it up and having to put in another 4 jump tickets I guess! But the exit was totally sweet and we banged the first 4 points out really quickly. I was so suprised that when everyone else started over I just sat there, banged into Rich and dropped low. I managed to get back up, we did another 4 points, Milko grabbed my nose and gave it a good squeeze before we tracked off. Everyone was just smiling and having a blast. Massive respect for Rich (Wheatley), Milko and Tony (Danbury) - one of my best jumps yet.
The other that comes to mind was my first jump over in Spain. I was doing a 2 way with Ric (Kent) and it suddenly just clicked, it was all really easy. Ric's quite a big guy and I'm quite scrawny so we usually have trouble staying together but this time it just all came together. Not doing anything special, just geeking and having the best time. Sitting under canopy looking around, late afternoon, still warm, the sea on one side and the mountains on the other, does it get any better?
But there are so many others, even the ones that went horribly wrong (like the time I was front floating on a 4 way and turned the wrong way on exit!) I look back on and smile :-)
I've managed 118 jumps in my first year as a skydiver. If the next are anything like this one then I'm a happy, happy man.
