BAD YAMS!!

Recommended Posts

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT TRYING TO START ANY TROUBLE WITH ANY DZ AND SO FOR THIS REASON PLEASE IF YOU REPLY I'M NOT LOOKING FOR ANY NAMES OR DZ'S JUST OPINIONS AND THOUGHTS THANKYOU
In the past there has been posts about different DZ's that will quote"say anything to get your money". My question is does anyone think that some places may fail a AFF level to get a little bit of extra money outa it?? What I mean is say level 4 ( that seems to be a popular failed level) if you do every thing well but there was something you could of done better but was in the saftey margin. You may not realize you passed it because your the student and so the JM says sorry gotta redue it. Does any one think that there are people out there that would fail you to milk out more$$$ for the DZ? The reason I ask this is just that you always read about cons in all kinds of sports. Just wondering if any one had any thoughts

I can only speak from my experience but when my friend passed level 4 they told him that he had passed but was marginal and that he might want to think about repeating it. They did give him the option of going on because he was within the margin but recomended that he repeat so that he was safer and a better flier. He did repeat and said that it was one of the best decisions that he made in AFF.

I can only personally speak from my AFF experience. I took it over at Perris and passed with flying colors...AND even though I had to leave early on the last day of my AFF they managed to pull some strings and even switch jumpers around so I could jump load after load. And in all honesty I've been to 2 other DZ's int he states and I was treated with the exact same kind of brother/sister love. I've jumped with the best of the best and never knew it at the time, I've never been treated as anything less as how I would expect to be treated, equal. I've sat co-pilot tons of times too without having to like pay lol or whatever...it might be because I am a chick, maybe, or maybe the fact that I'm not very gullible...I don't know. But I've yet to run across any snakes in this...and honestly I hope and don't think that I will.

I dont think so. Our DZ has a package deal where you get 15 jumps to complete our 10 Level AFF course. So you get to fail a few and not have to pay for that level again. The whole package is much better than buying one level at a time. I havent run into too many people that had to redo levels over and over again. I think that they are honestly looking for you to be safe. Once you are off AFF, you are pretty on your own and there is still a lot to learn. So if you dont have the basics its going to be tough to learn some more advanced stuff safely.

I've never run into this in my (very limited) experience. It does seem to me though that a DZ would make more money in the long run to pass the student (assuming they did what they were supposed to). It seems when the student fails some would get frustrated and maybe leave the sport, as opposed to graduating AFF and making lots and lots of fun jumps, which will be more money in the long run.

lazerq, I wouldn't take those comments seriously about DZ's saying anything to get your money. Last month there was a flame war going on against a certain DZ in Georgia, because it advertised itself under about half a dozen different names on the WWW & one of the staff members there forged a glowing review of the DZ, posing as a visiting student. So some people from the neighboring DZ's got angry and started saying that stuff about "they'll do anything to get your money". Aside from questionable advertising, I haven't heard anything about this or any other DZ screwing their students as you describe.
