Jan Davis Remembered

Recommended Posts

I had the great fortune of meeting Jan at the end of February this year at the Gold Coast Skydivers Mardi Gras Boogie in Moss Point, Mississippi. Jan arrived early, registered, and on a beautiful Friday afternoon, gave up her slot on a 4-way to fly a tandem video for us. She was more than happy to film a first time jumper's excitement and joy as he boarded the CASA and then exited. She captured the expressions of both the tandem student and tandem master in freefall and in landing. And never did she expect to be compensated for doing what she obviously loved! Imagine her surprise when I handed her money and said thank you for doing us a favor. She gave up her spot in a 4-way to provide a lasting impression on both the student through his video and the lasting impression on me. I am blessed to have met Jan and to have seen her videography skills. Jan, you will forever fly in blue skies and will forever be in my thoughts. Thank you for sharing your joy of skydiving with all of us. -Debora

Well said Deborah. Although I never met Jan, I knew her reputation. But I kinda feel I do know her a bit now from yours, and other posts about her. We should have a moment of rememberance for all the DZcom people sometime (kinda like Albatross suggested). Maybe at a particular time, on a particular day, we could all take a moment wherever we are, and remember...

I never had the pleasure of meeting Jan either, but based on the outpouring of posts here and on rec.skydiving she was much loved in the skydiving community. I was looking at the bio she had posted on the web, and I realized we both had the same birthday, which is this Thursday, April 12th. So for those of you that would like to remember Jan, perhaps this weekend would make a good time in honor of her birthday.
Blue Skies,

Is it true that Jan Davis was the first woman to BASE jump off of Angel Falls?

That's the other Jan Davis. The Jan we're talking about was Jan the camera flier AKA Jan Devil.
BTW. I was talking to Scotty Carbone about this and he mentioned yet another Jan Davis (i.e. not Jan the BASE jumper or Jan Devil, but another one) that went in.
Three Jan Davises? Could that be right? If so, and you're a jumping Jan Davis, I'd change my name pronto! :o
