Well, Tracy, at least now you know what type of crowd your getting mixed up with here! So how do you manage to skysurf with under 200 jumps? No offence, but I kinda thought that was something reserved for the high timers... Tell me more!

Hey Junky! Glad ya didn’t get scared off with all the shit ya took. If I was in your place, I probably would have ran away with my tail between my legs. There’s a lot of cool people here though. And, if you want, you can steal my nick anytime :D!! I really had a very meaningful story behind my name, but I was drunk, and now I don’t remember what it was. Now it’s just stupid. When will I learn?
See ya!

Wow, Tracy, you got a reply from the main man! You're in for sure now. Sorry for suggesting LadyF. How sexist of me, especially since my nickname is Andi! But, you do still have quite good manners to not sent back ugly replies to some of the ones you got.

iflyme,
skysurfing with 200 jumps? it's sure possible. take me for excample. i jumped and did a 4 way with a tandem on jump #46. if who ever is giving the training thinks you can do it safely then why wait to hit a "magic" number. in my case the tandem master had jumped with me many time before (non-tandem) and knew i could do it safely. only hard part is trying to adjust fall rate before and after the drouge is deployed. (plus not to fly into it)
freefalljunky,
welcome back! just gota laugh at all the crazyness that has been going on. it normally takes a little while after starting to post for people to remember ya, you are now well known and didn't have to wait long at all.......can't wait to see more post by ya.

Wingy - I've heard/read that a minimum of 400 jumps is recommended before one trys moving on up to skysurfing. Now of course I'm gonna get flamed for saying this, but IMHO you are still a novice or just beyond at 200 jumps.

As you know, the emergency procedures are a little more complicated, and there was a fatality recently where a 23 year old guy with 400 jumps, and no formal instruction (according to the fatalities page) had a bad deployment on his first skysurf, and never recovered. So obviously you want GOOD training before you try to skysurf. I wonder how many other skydivers with 200 jumps feel competent enough to skysurf...??? BTW, to the best of my knowledge, at my DZ the tandem masters don't invite other jumpers to fly with them, other than the video dude. I guess it is a "per dropzone" type of issue.

iflyme,
your right about needing proper training. i was just trying to say that jump numbers in themselves are not a messure of ones knowlage and experiance. i'm one for the train of though that a magic number should not be the basis on which what you can do should be judged. i have a few people at my dz that have double my jumps but could not fly as well as i can (i'm not saying that i'm good in any way). why should they be able to start training just because they have the jump numbers. it hould be on a purely skill related chart. granted though when one reaches certain numbers they "should" have the skill to do certain things.
on the skysurfer with out proper training, well i'd be the same as me making my first jump by showing up at the dz, straping on a rig and getting on the plane....proper training is a must!....on the jumping with tandems, it is most likely a per dz basis. only one of the tandem masters (with passenger) at my dz will jump with me. i don't jump that offen with him. a few jumps into a airport-fetival (sorta a demo jump but it was just at a diffrent airport with a crowd, and a HUGE landing area) and a few jumps here and there. normally we have a lurker on 1 out of three tandems at my dz. i know it's diffrent in the states (or in your case canada)
feel free to flame away.........
freeflyjunky,
sorry to get way off topic on this one.

At my new home DZ, Skydive Space Center in Titusville, FL, there is a skysurf school.. Recommended minimum experience is 200 jumps, but I have seen guys with as little as 80 jumps skysurfing.. Here it seems to depend on whether or not the instructors know your flying abilities.. If they know your flying, and they are satisfied with it, they don't care how many jumps you have.. They know it's not the best indication of skills.. I plan on trying the skysurf thing eventually, but I'm not in any big hurry..

Hey Tracy, I did not want to get involved in the other post as it seemed a little touchy for some. My name is Greg, I jump at Eloy, I have just gotten my A license 2 weeks ago, and I have 31 jumps and counting. I Like your new name better, "junky" kind of gives it that "dangerous" sound like you might just "shank" someone for a jump ticket or something. Anyway, welcome!
Blue ones!!
