decorous 0 #1 April 19, 2001 While reading posts I noticed that our home DZs are all very different. Just wondering where everyone's home away from home was located, how big it is, plane, and anything else. My DZ is about an hour 1/2 south east of Nashville, and is relativly small. We used to jump a DC3 but are now down to a c182. I can drive the other direction into Ky for a larger DZ, but enjoy the regulars at TSC.
PalmettoTiger 1 #2 April 19, 2001 Well, I was "born" at Cross Keys, which is an hour from school. It's near Williamstown, NJ, which is SE of Philly. It's a beeeg DZ - year-round jumping, two Twin Otters and a biplane at last count, large heated hangar, great gear store, great snack shack, and a few tiki bars now and then. The landing area is hyooooge, but surrounded by trees. Of course, on the other side of the tress is a golf course, so if you don't mind landing out you could even take your clubs with you. Blue Sky Adventures in St. George, SC is my current DZ (I switch between X-Keys and BSA whenever I go back to school or come home). There's year round jumping here too, although it's not so much of a bragging right given that NJ winters are slightly harsher than SC winters. King Air, ulralights if you're brave enough and willing to wind the rubber bands, heated hangar, decent landing area, also surrounded by forests. BSA is a 50-minute drive from my house, or an hour if I stop for donuts and coffee.I'm also thinking of visiting Skydive SC in Chester, SC, which is probably the same driving time from my house, but north instead of southeast. I really enjoy BSA, but you gotta see what's out there (and get your Rodriguez Bros. initiation and tequila while you're at it)!whoops, our fileserver just puked. Back to "work".Blues, squares,PTiger
mountainman 0 #3 April 19, 2001 Quoteor an hour if I stop for donuts and coffee. Are you a cop??? haha...j/kSounds like a pretty sweet DZ. I am undecided on a home DZ. I am going to do training at either Cleveland Parachute Center or Aerodrome. Can't decide as of yet. Krishan 0 #4 April 19, 2001 Well the closest DZ to me is 90 miles away on the north edge of ABQ, NM and it's the only one in the state, so I would have to say that New Mexico Air Adventures is my home dz. We've got 2 182's and if were lucky we get up to 10K as our ground elevation is already a mile high. But I'll take what I can get. There is a great group of regulars there.good fun. Greg 0 #5 April 19, 2001 Hello Decorous,My home away from home is just about an hour southeast of Phoenix, in Eloy (Skydive AZ). The DZ is HUGE. We have three different landing areas, the main for the more experienced (also an east west only landing rule), an alternate for the less experienced (no east west restriction), and then a landing area specifically for students. Skydive AZ has 3 super otters, 1 skyvan, 1 porter, 1 king air, 1 dc-3, and 1 stearmen bi plane. Skydive AZ has all of the "ammenities" you would ever need, like The Bent Prop which is a bar and resteraunt, Square 2, Rigging Innovations, indoor packing in the main hangar, awesome instructors, the list really is almost endless!! Lots of friendly people too. Greg A-37958
PalmettoTiger 1 #6 April 19, 2001 QuoteAre you a cop??? haha...j/kI'm a network administrator; I can watch people's screens from across the building, kick them off (sooooo satisfying!), revoke e-mail privileges, the works... does that count?Actually I got in the habit because I wanted to try and curry favor with my instructors. I brought a dozen donuts each time I thought I was going to be late. I think I'll make it a tradition (to bring donuts, not to be late), because a) it's cheaper than beer, b) can be enjoyed after the sunrise load, and c) helps to develop a "natural arch."
