PalmettoTiger 1 #1 April 19, 2001 My beerst post here and I figured I'd get everyone else to open up about themselves while keeping my own secrets secret. Thus I'll maintain my stealthy lurker existence here. How do I tell them that as a result of the unfreezing process I have no inner monologue? Here's my question. How did you get your nickname? Naming stories are the best ones - usually the really good nicknames come not from doing something cool, but from doing something dumb or embarassing and living to tell the story! (Or living to try and quash the story, depending on your personality.)I don't have a nickname yet (I don't even have a rig or an A-license yet!), but I do have a kind of embarassing story about training. I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours... Blues, squares,PTiger
Pammi 0 #2 April 19, 2001 Ah well, mine is from a lack of imagination :) Obviously! I used it cuz I've been told I have multiple personality issues Pammi"The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live." -Joan Borysenko
Greg 0 #3 April 19, 2001 DISCLAIMER- I HAVE A SICK SENSE OF HUMORWell...it was a cold winter's night back in the later days of December of 1969....my mother was rushed to the hospital.....and thats when it happened, I did my first night jump, it was a "static line" out of a "beaver". I would assume that there was careful consideration on the nickname I was given, they called me.......Greg!! That nickname has stuck with me for my entire life!!Sorry Tiger, no cool story associated with my nickname, but now maybe we can hear (read) yours!!Blue ones!!Greg A-37958
skymama 37 #4 April 19, 2001 Mine isn't that creative either. I was sitting at the computer, trying to think of a name, and one of my kids called out "MAMA". (I'm sure it was because one of them was teasing the other!) My kids are the most important thing in my life, so "skymama" just kind of seemed like the right name for me. The reason why it is mama, and not mom, is because we lived in Louisiana and Alabama when they were young, and they picked up that southern version from hearing everyone else say it. At least they got rid of their accents when we moved to FL! Blue Skies-AndreaA-37148
SkySlut 0 #5 April 19, 2001 Greg, That is a RIOT!!! Now, thats comedy!!!As for me, I spent a week at the DZ for AFF. I graduated the 10 level course in 3 days and made 25 jumps that week. They have been calling me SkySlut since the 3rd or 4th day. If there is a load up, I am usually on it. I have probably missed 1 or 2 weekends at the DZ since, even if there is 3 feet of snow on the ground. I am just an allaround SkyWhore.-Slut"I'll jump anything!" Doasfu 0 #6 April 19, 2001 Mine is also very boring. Many years ago a friend and I were sitting around playing a video game, and when we needed to name the character he shouted out, "Death On A Stick!" which I shortened to Doas. When I tried to register Doas on slashdot.org, it was taken so I added the suffix "-fu."Dan
PalmettoTiger 1 #7 April 19, 2001 Greg, that was the funniest thing I've read in about a week!! As for my current nickname, I'm from South Carolina so that's the "Palmetto" part. The palmetto is our state tree and it's on the state flag, which happens to be the coolest state flag in the country. (Nothing against any of the other 49 states, I'm sure you've got us beat in every other category.) In the past few years with the whole Confederate rag, er, flag controversy, people showed their support for taking the "symbol of heritage" down by wearing state flag hats and shirts, etc. I've even seen koozies w/ the crescent and palmetto emblem, which makes me think it lost its political symbolism and became a merchandising thing. But anyway.... the cool lookin-flag is one of the few things we have to be proud of here in SC (aside from being the home of the Rodriguez Brothers, of course), and that's why it's the first half of my nick. The "Tiger" part of the nickname was easy. My school's mascot is the tiger, and I love my school, so adopting as part of my online persona was a natural step.As for the embarrassing training story, you'll have to wait until I get home and get the exact details from my logbook. But I'll share, because y'all have. Blues, squares,PTiger

SpeedRacer 1 #10 April 19, 2001 Well, most of the regulars have heard this, but:People have always said I look like the cartoon character Speed Racer, so I showed up for the 1999 Halloween Boogie dressed as Speed Racer (I graduated AFF during that boogie)& that's how I acquired the nickname. See my post in the Hop&Pop thread about my drunken fire jumping behaviors.Speed Racer"Blue Skies, Red eyes, Sore thighs!"

mountainman 0 #13 April 19, 2001 Greg.....that was great! I told several friends about it and none of them got it or thought it was funny. Damn whuffos! Ah well...they'll catch on!My nick is from when I was little and visited Colorado, I would be all over the mountain on hikes. I would be on cliff edges, in the trees, etc, etc. My step-dad said, "man you are just a little mountain boy, huH?"The name stuck and when I turned 18, he gave me a card that says "you are now a full-fledged mountainman". And there it is!AdiosNEW AND IMPROVED!!!http://home.woh.rr.com/brandonandlaura/
skreamer 1 #14 April 19, 2001 GregThat was funny as f@ck man!!! Hey, does your mother have net access because I bet she would just love to read that post... I mean she was the jumpmaster after all!waaaahahahahahahaOh yes, my nickname(s)1)skreamer - on my first jump I was *venting* in the plane on jump run, so the JM told me to shut the f@ck up because I was distracting the pilot...2)cockroach - I first got to freefall via SL progression, they gave me the nickname because of my *interesting* body position assumed immediately after exit3)Mr. Floaty - got given this one last Saturday by a chick in Germany, I had told her all about my fast fall rate, then I floated on her (twice) and she weighs like 40 pounds less than me...Can't really decide which of those nicks is the most embarrassing, but I'll stick with the first./s[drop till you party!]
wingnut 0 #15 April 19, 2001 skreamer,i remember a post you put up a whil ago. it had to do something with your bum and a heating radiator. i thought that was how you got your name.as for me i got mine while jumping in texas...at skydive texas. there was this ex-marine named cas and he was jokingly making fun of me for being in the airforce by calling me wingnut. i liked it so i made it stick.....i'll never forget sitting in his trailer dinking "black cans" and getting called wingnut. man life was good then......now it's just getting better!<>
skreamer 1 #16 April 19, 2001 Quoteit had to do something with your bum and a heating radiatorUmm, yes, that's right it was the radiator... froggie 0 #17 April 19, 2001 hello palmetto tiger, whats going on? welcome to our little world here. Froggie~now how did i get that nick? well, a long long time ago (hell! it was '95!) when i was a freshman in high school I was this tiny little stick of a person. It was before i really took on any shape, and before i had banges. Everybody and their little sister is taller than me so Id have to look up to talk to people... One day, I was talking to "reggie" (we gave him that nick) and hes looking down at me and just yells "kermit!" in the middle of our conversation. I was a bit confused, but after he pointed out to everyone that all you notice when you looked at me was my big ass eyes well, then i started to understand. The kermit stuck for a while, but then it sorta turned into kermie and now, ive just adapted it to be froggie. Ive actually been thinking of changing it to frogz, but thats not up to me :) its whatever people wanna call me. (within limits!)Now, about the SO froggie, you gotta ask Grogs about that one! :) But he had better not tell...... lolfroggie
miked10270 0 #18 April 19, 2001 Hi there,Personally I got the first part of my handle in similar circumstances to Greg... ONLY I DID IT BEFORE HIM so I'm claiming his lines! The second part - I got "a while ago" as I was comong in to land (after keeping my logbook wellaway from prying eyes for w few weeks). Unfortunately I was "grassed up" by Iona so my landing was a disaster - which I blame on the "flak" of potato peelings, greasy water, cold tea & god knows what that was thrown at me as I flared!Mike D10270. Donna 0 #19 April 19, 2001 Very interesting how you got your name Skyslut! I like it! Thing is, for some strange reason I had assumed you were female until I clicked on your name. :o) Thanks for a good laugh, Greg! Some people think that I was named after a hurricane that we had the day I was born but actually my mom already had my name picked out before that. I do have a nickname, Ty, which was shortened from Tysca. That was a name I used in chat after trying a bunch of names that were already in use and I got frustrated and just threw some letters together.Looking forward to hearing your jump story, Tiger. I've written up all my jump stories on my homepage, some definitely embarrassing, especially the tree one. SkySlut 0 #20 April 19, 2001 Yeah, its funny when the DZ calls out the name over the PA...and then they see me...funny. People just tend to call me 'slut' sometimes. I think its easier and a little less pretentious.-Slut"I'll jump anything!"
skybytch 273 #21 April 19, 2001 Well, me and a friend were known at our small dz to be pretty wild and crazy, as well as being quite vocal about the inate superiority of the female sex when compared to the rest of the population. We were known for a while as the "skybitches from hell". When I got internet access I knew I wanted my email address to be skybitch@ but they wouldn't let me get away with spelling it that way. Therefore, I am the skybytch! From Hell wouldn't fit...pull and flare, lisa
huffermoose 0 #22 April 19, 2001 right well my nickname came about during my aff there i am with a few other guys from the DZ getting absolutly arseholed ! now this girl from the local village sidles up and starts talking to me well at first i see this really big blob, spots etc (i don't meen to offend anyone but she was scary well) well whilst on my 8th sambuca i think to my self her legs look ok, a few more and i say she's got a sense of humour, even more great personality after that i woke up and thought to my self "this is not a tent" looked around and guess who's snuggled in my armpit yep you guessed . well i sidle and io swerve, i try and pry the thighs which are wrapped around me and just as i am getting out the door she wakes up and says "high sweety fancy another one" with this i bolt for the door run out and begin my walk of shame back to the airfield, to find a pubic hair between my mouth, and i'm sorry i just puked up bad, well obviously as i got caught by the guys in the tent next to mine creeping back in to mine, it doesn't take a rocket science to figure what i've been up to so for the rest of the week all i heard from manifest was "will huffermoose please report to manifest if you want a jump, guffaw guffaw"amber liquid blue skies allan

Zennie 0 #24 April 20, 2001 Mine's pretty self-explanatory and more boring than many of y'alls. In Zen circles, we sometimes refer to people who are into Zen as "Zennies" (kinda like 'Moonies' or 'Goonies', I dunno). Being into Zen and all, it seemed like an appropriate nick.------------Blue Skies!Zennie
