Greg 0 #1 April 23, 2001 Has anyone heard of or thought about a pair of "Head Down Shoes"? Im thinking they would be like an oversized pair of tivas or something, to help catch the wind, and maybe prove helpful when beginning to freefly, something you could kind of "hang" under, like training wheels for head down. I have seen some suits with "gills" on the legs that kind of accomplish the same thing, but Im thinking of a possible "poor mans friend" approach. Even if they were, perhaps, inflatable, like water wings that you could slip on before exit.Any thoughts??Greg A-37958

PalmettoTiger 1 #4 April 23, 2001 Inflatable's a good idea - it would be really tough to walk on them so you really can't have it "deployed" before you get in the door. You'd have to put all the extra drag surface on the sides of the shoe, because putting it on the toe would make it easier for them to get ripped off by the wind. (Visualize - you're wearing a shoe that drags enough to keep you head down, and at the same time it's keeping your foot pointed.) Balancing the extra surface front and back would make it even more difficult to walk on. The other thing to consider is that the extra drag makes foot position much more important - if you don't keep both feet even you'll induce a turn, and if your feet aren't parallel to the ground you'll start moving sideways or forwards/backwards.Blues, squares,PTiger
Greg 0 #5 April 23, 2001 I take it you dont think this would work, oh well, Ill have to make my fortune the old fashion way. Guess I should go get my resignation letter back from the boss man!!! Better yet, maybe I could let him keep it and get a job at McDonalds as a "local" Ronald!! Ill just tell all of the kids that I wear the "big read shoes" for stability when I "McJump" from the "McOtter"!!Blue ones!!Greg A-37958
PalmettoTiger 1 #6 April 23, 2001 I didn't mean to sound so negative but I guess it came out that way. You should definitely experiment and see if you can get it to work. And if it doesn't, you won't have to actually do any work for McDonalds - get them to sponsor you so that you'll just earn your living doing McDemo's with a big McLogo on your McRig and your McCanopy. Maybe take a McFlag along once in a while, too. Heeeeeey... any CReWdogs out there want to try and land a GoldenArch McStack? Greg 0 #9 April 23, 2001 Quote...rig a pair of swimming flippers for a tracking jump. See if I could totally haul A@@! :-)It would prolly work pretty good, you may need to make them more rigid somehow, It would be fun to try it anyway!!
huffermoose 0 #10 April 23, 2001 the best flippers you coud use ise the ones for boogie boards they only extend from you feet by maybe 2 - 4 inches and then for your hands put hand paddles on the ones they use for swimming training, however you need a quick and garanteed release for the hand paddles it would look kind of stupid going in because you wanted hand paddles onttfn Allan
JohnJug 0 #11 April 23, 2001 How about just the neoprene webbed surfer gloves? You should still be able to pull fine with those on, but they would increase the surface area on your hands. Might also be warmer than just the golf/batting gloves that a lot of people use for cold weather.Blue McSkiesBill
skreamer 1 #12 April 23, 2001 There was a lot of bullshit in Point Break, but I did enjoy seeing the guy skydiving with the boogie board flippers, I think that is exactly what you were suggesting - it looked like a lot of fun./s
BarrettJ99 0 #13 April 24, 2001 Why don't you try tying a bed sheet to each foot. You would be pretty much guaranteed to go head down.-T1C-30757

Albatross 0 #15 April 24, 2001 Why stop with just the flippers. Use the thick ridgid "Duck Feet" and add the boggie board. Think of the glide that you could get. Maybe one with channels for the wind. Fly Free, Fly fast, Fly togetherAlbatross

AggieDave 6 #17 April 24, 2001 Cool Picture. Now I really really want to do this. I have a feeling we're going to have to sneak the flippers on the plane and take them off under canopy or land off the airport, chase some cows...well, that'll be a different post all together. :)AggieDave '02-------------Blue Skies and Gig'em Ags!BTHO t.u.
