SpeedRacer 1 #1 April 24, 2001 Well, once again I posted a question at the bottom of a thread & it quickly got pounded down to the bottom of the forum list. So I'm reposting it so I can get more answers:I have a few questions about Ireland and the UK regarding skydiving and beer:It seems that our comrades across the pond are more likely to make a mass exodus to the pub instead of taking a trip to the liquor store to buy a case of beer & bring it back to the DZ, as is more commonly done here in the USA.Or am I over-generalizing?Do Irish & Brits have the same beer rules (for celebrating firsts, off-landings, etc.) over there, or some modification of them (i.e., buying a round of drinks for all your skydiving mates instead of buying a case of beer)?Do any of y'all have bars right there on the dropzone?Speed Racer
skreamer 1 #2 April 24, 2001 Hi SpeedyWell my DZ at Langar has a really cool pub in the clubhouse (Chuckles) and the prices are quite reasonable too (well, by London standards anyway!). But the only real beer rule I know about there is the 'Beer Line', the DZ has a HUGE landing area, but if you land past the line (ie too close to the spectators and parked planes) then you owe a case. It was quite funny because this past Saturday 3 students landed past the beer line, and the JM on the load was the owner of the DZ Pub (Chuckles the man himself). And of course guess where those students have to buy their beer...But you guys have to bear in mind that alcohol (like fuel) is really heavily taxed here, so buying a case puts a far bigger dent in the wallet. I definitely didn't mind paying my dues beer-wise in California, but there is no way we could afford to buy beers here for all the things you guys do./s
SpeedRacer 1 #3 April 24, 2001 Only one solution, skreamer: Learn homebrewing! When I make a batch of homebrew it works out to less than $1.00 per 12 ounce bottle! (Actually, probably about $18.00 per case of 24.) And it's much better than store-bought beer!Speed Racer
SpeedRacer 1 #4 April 24, 2001 Oh yeah, we have the "beer line" rule here in the USA too.Speed Racer
PalmettoTiger 1 #5 April 24, 2001 I landed over the beer line twice during my AFF progression. BUT, since I was on radio both times, it wasn't me who bought beer... Actually the DZO was talking me down both times so no beer came from the event. He who owns the place sets the rules, and all that.Blues, squares,PTiger
