froggie 0 #1 May 3, 2001 hey guys. just got home from the dz. did my level 5 jump. and i will be doing my level 5 jump again. Body position was bad. arms were to far out in front of me. couldnt get stable. didnt do any manuvers. So i just sort of flopped around for the entire skydive. Canopy ride was my best one yet though. Lots of people complemented me on the fine job that i did :) hehe. Winds 13mph out of the west. started coming out of the south west while i was under canopy. Did a left rear riser turn for the feel of it. Started downwind a little early but i compensated on my base leg. This time i made sure to give myself lots of extra area to my right because i was crabbing that way... So i was at a really good spot over the landing area. no worries of being blown over the trees cause I was far enough away. Turned final and low and behold... No "OH SHIT! FLARE!! SHIT FLARE!!" feelings. Flared perfectly. Nice soft landing. STOOD IT UP! whoo hee. i kick ass. lol And a friend of mine videoed the landing so ive got it on tape. All in all, i was worried about the winds before i even geared up. worried about them continuously. that took away from my skydive. Screwed the actual jump up but learned that i can handle the winds. I just got to work them to my advantage. A lesson learned so no money wasted ya know?froggie
Head 0 #2 May 3, 2001 Hey Froggie, don't be discouraged! You're right...each jump is a learning experience so don't be too bummed. Sounds like you did a great job with the winds and learned some more about canopy control. Hang in there!Head
Grogs 0 #3 May 3, 2001 Cool deal. Glad to hear it went well. Don't worry too much about having to repeat the level though. It happens to most people somewhere along the line, and I'm sure you'll do better on the next jump.
lazerq3 0 #4 May 4, 2001 Hey froggie, I dont know if this will help you but it helped me... before every jump during AFP I would lay on the creeper and then my J/M would take a broom stick, lay it on my back and then I would wrap my arms over it. He told me this was a great hover, and stable position for my arms to be in freefall. This also helped with muscle memory in that my arms would naturaly go back into the wide W shape. And then while on the creeper it also helped in learning to turn by dipping the shoulders instead of turning at the waist. I dont know like I said that worked for me. Good luck and gald to here your perfect landingjason
skymedic 0 #5 May 4, 2001 better luck next time!!! being a new AFF graduate the best thing my instructors told me is to relax and have fun!!!have a good one the next time around...marc
Dutchboy 0 #6 May 4, 2001 Good job on the canopy work. Don't sweat repeating a level. One of my friends was awesome in the tunnel and we thought for sure he'd go straight through without a repeat. He did level 6 five times! Another guy was kinda awkward, and he went straight through. It is all learning. Just relax and enjoy.

mountainman 0 #8 May 4, 2001 Hey froggie...I am not speaking from experience. I'm just speaking from what I've heard. I know it's expensive, but maybe if it's possible to do several jumps in one weekend, I've heard it's much easier to remember what to do and how to do it when you've just done it and can go back up.REMEMBER...I am only speaking from what I've heard, so I don't need any flaming.Good luck and blue skysNEW AND IMPROVED!!!http://home.woh.rr.com/brandonandlaura/
PalmettoTiger 1 #9 May 4, 2001 QuoteREMEMBER...I am only speaking from what I've heard, so I don't need any flaming.Brandon!! You are such a boob!! Don't ever comment on anything else until you've done it 30 times in a row, perfectly, and taught it to six people who are now world champions!!Just figured I'd get the flaming out of the way so no one else feels tempted. But he's right. It took me 11 months to make it up to AFF IV, a span that included 3 repeats. I did my IV, V, VI, and VII in less than 14 hours!! Not only do you more clearly remember the sensations of freefall and how to fly your body, but being 24 hours or less out from your last jump kills your nervousness. Get back up there Froggie!Blues, squares,PTiger
lazerq3 0 #10 May 4, 2001 I'd have to agree on the all at once method if you can do it. I was having trouble with getting my legs out enough to not backslide and so the J/M told me to watch for this on the next level. Sure enough I remembered and corrected the problem. Now if I would have waited a week or 2 or 3 I probably would have forgoten that conversation with the J/M and had the same problem which may have caused a repeat. But in the end ya gotta do what YOU gotta do!! But now I have a new problem. I'm all good with the full forward track position, but when I did my first two way, we only turned 2 points because my chicken shit ass was to scared to create any forward movement to doc cause I thought we would hit to hard. O well always something to work on up there!!!jason
skyhawk 2 #11 May 4, 2001 yer froggie who cares if u "screwed up" did u have fun ? if so then it wasnt a wasted jump or nothen most ppl repeat and you will get, i had to repeat a level a couple of times cause i kept on turning everyone told me you will get it soon and im like sure now its just natural. i aggree with all suggestions. your a manifest chick so do a "solo" ask an instructor to go up with you just incase and pay for thier slot (you might be able to do one by yourself thats what i did but if its a stability prob they may want someone else up there"Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone."Pablo Picasso. froggie 0 #12 May 4, 2001 hey guys.. some bad newsmoms boyfriend got laid off today so that means less money coming in the house. which means no jumping for a while cause the money is needed elsewhere. But im not upset~at least not yet. because i know that i have priorities and jumping cant take preferance to paying the rent and all.. But ive got it figured out. I pay the bills. i help with them all. when we get okay, when he goes back to work i start keeping my money again. but i dont spend it right away. Im going to wait until i can afford to finish AFF PLUS my A license requirements in a short period of time. Id rather go uncurrent and have money to help w/ the bills then struggle to pay the bills and make one jump a month to stay current. No worries. So i go uncurrent and i make it up. NO big deal. I can live with that. THen when its time, i finish the student program and get my A. its just that simple. It'll be okay.kel
Albatross 0 #13 May 4, 2001 Sorry to hear that froggie. I know that money problems can be a bitch. Congrats on the perfect landing. I think that you obveously did a whole lot of good things on the dive. You learned that even if your are not perfectly stable that you can be aware and deploy. Besides the only two parts that you really need to get right are dump and land. If you can walk away you can always try again. As for the level, try my visualization cue: imagaine that the relative wind in cradling you like you are sinking into a huge pillow. Feel it all over you. A little pressure on the left makes the right come down and so on. WHY DO I SUDDENLY HAVE THAT WARM FEELING?Fly Free, Fly fast, Fly togetherAlbatross
Dirtsucks 0 #14 May 4, 2001 Hey Kelly, sorry to hear about that. If anybody understands what it’s like to not jump because of money, ya know I do. I haven’t posted a whole lot on the threads recently, but I have been lurking, and I know how much fun you’ve been having. I hope everything works out for you. I’ve been very patient trying to get back up in the sky, and I know you will too, hopefully soon. See ya Kel.Josh
cloud9 0 #15 May 4, 2001 FroggieI don't think anyone mentioned, but we all ZZZZZZZ out from time to time. No one wants to admitt it but hey it happens everyday. I have 110 jumps and just today I went out at 14,500 from an otter thought I'd do a little free flyin. Next thing I know I'm all over the sky. Good arch and back in control so no worries. As for the money I feel for ya. We can all relate, anyway skydiving is about fun not being perfect. so have fun hope you get back in the sky soon.I quit for a short period, 22 years later I jumped again! Please don't make my mistake!!!Some fun eh!
wingnut 0 #16 May 4, 2001 hope everything works out shortly froggie,.....hey, it took me two years to get my "a"! you'll be back in the air before ya know it!!!!....and as for the dive, don't sweat it, ya should see my logbook....18th jump was when i graduated from static line progresion!"if dreams are like movies, then memories are like films about ghosts"-counting crows
