Rich's got good rental gear, if the rumor I heard about Emerald Coast shutting down's not true, and they're a great DZ- friendly jumpers, fun aircraft-- and th' beach is a beautiful place to jump.... soft white sugar sand, beer, ocean, beer, bathing-suited folk to ogle, beer..... go enjoy, cyber, 'specially if you haven't been before! :)

If you are heading that direction you should at least stop by Skydive Atlanta in Thomaston. Get a couple of jumps in on the Super Otter. I don't think there is any registration for the boogie, and I know that at a minimum, Doug Glover from Nemesis is going to be organizing. If you come early enough on Saturday you might catch my 100th jump.

D, balanced my checkbook last night and after this weekend's boogie, I am going to be FLAT BROKE!!!!
However, I would love to do it next year and am making a note in my calendar for it...so, if you don't go this year (which it sounds like is very minimal) then I will hang with you next year!!!!
We'll have to plan an extra hour in the trip............give ourselves enough time to drive around Dutchboy's DZ ego!:o!!!!

Hey, I resemble that remark. I say don't knock it till you try it. You ought to come down and find out why we're the #1 DZ in the state. There's a reason I drive 98 miles to go there! There are many others who drive even further.

It is kind of hard not to knock it with you beeping your own horn all the time!!!!!
I would like to come down to try out Thomaston, but your opinion is just that, so please keep your preaching to a minimum (ie. "best dropzone in GA"). I happen to think that Monroe is bloody fantastic, but you don't hear me screaming from the rooftops - or worse, making it the only thing I can talk about & make posts on.
Your enthusiasm for your own dropzone is bordering on invasive/annoying. And I know of others who share this.
So, I am pleased(really!:)YOU have found a place to call your "skydiving home", but so have the other THOUSANDS of skydivers in the world that don't jump at Thomaston.

Pyke, I'm sorry that you feel that way. I don't constantly preach about my DZ. I don't have any stake in the DZ at all, unlike Cyber who is Monroe's webmaster and is constantly promoting that DZ.
If you are happy only trying one DZ then more power to you. I've jumped at 3 of the 4 Georgia DZ's and still jump regularly at 2 of them. It's a big world out there.
Like Cyber said, share the love...

I was warned to check this post out again, and I am not surprised.
Dutch, FYI, YES Cyber is the webmaster for his DZ, but SO AM I!!! However, all you get out of either one of us is just what is happening as far as a boogie goes, because that is where our JOBS end...NOT "hey everyone, I want you ALL to know that I am about to do my 100th jump so EVERYONE in AMERICA should come to MY boogie instead." or, "Hey, if you are planning on going to another state in the union, you should stop by my dz because it is on the way (sounds like another GA person to me) and do a jump, because...well, because I am there!" I don't recall being in competition with Thomaston or with any other dz, but if the rules have changed, I know which team I am on. I TOO am about to reach my 100th (perhaps at this boogie) but I would rather reach it on a warm day at a friendly dropzone with my friends, instead of pressuring everyone to know that I am about to become a respectable skydiver so NOW you all have to take me seriously. We take you seriously Dutch, I think you take yourself a bit more seriously than the rest of us.
Secondly, as for your point about settling on one DZ....I HAVE jumped at a couple of the different DZ's in the state and I stuck with where I belonged. That doesn't make my choice invalid, nor does it give you the right to claim your DZ is the best....it works for you so stick with it, but keep your sermons for the mountains. I have also jumped in 2 different countries and at over 10 different dropzones, so I can hardly give your crack about being happy at "one" dz any credit. I am happy at ALL of them, as long as they put me in the sky!!!
Thirdly, I do share love. I just don't share annoyance!!! Cyber was asking if anyone was going to a boogie on the Florida/Alabama state line. You are on hour south from Atlanta (anyone on dz.com not know where Dutch's DZ is yet?) so you tell me Dutch, you and your friends have decided to take a road trip with the ultimate destination being some 6-7(?) hours away....do you really stop 1 hour after getting on the road to do a jump...causing you to unpack all your gear, get suited up, go on a load, land, pack and pack your car again? somehow I DON'T THINK SO.
So, if you want to keep us informed about your DZ's happenings great, I am sure WE ALL would love to hear when you have your boogies. But when someone else is talking about taking a trip to - even so close as Augusta, or as far as Hawaii and beyond - don't inform them that you are on the way. You come off as intrusive and annoying. (but hey, don't listen to me...be annoying and cast a negative light on your dz in the process..."Oh that DZ, isn't that where Dutchboy jumps? Think I'll pass")
In conclusion, I still plan on touring around, making jumps wherever and with whomever is around at the time. And who knows, if you're at Thomaston when I jump, well I would love to jump with you and maybe share a beer with you afterwards. But you won't know when I am coming, and neither will anyone else.
For all the others on the forum, sorry about this. I hate getting petty. I just felt something should be said, and I tried to do it politely.

Well, you are wrong. I've done this before. If there is another DZ along the way I'll try and stop there and get in a jump or two if possible. Several of my friends have been known to do the same thing.
Hey, if you don't like to stop at a DZ or two along the way then do what works for you. I'm sorry if the fact that others like to do this offends you. I'm afraid to offer you a beer if you stop by cause that might piss you off. :)Anyway, I've got way too much work to do to sit at my computer and debate such things.

Pyke,
Do you realise that your mentor, Bill Scott, and owner of your home DZ, does not know what he talks about? I had a main, made by Flight Concepts, that he swore didn't exist, that FC never made this canopy. One of his people, the guy that operates the food cart, I think his name is Jimmie, used to work for Flight Concepts and had to set him straight, even to telling Bill the colors used in the process, because Bill tried to tell me I was a liar while I was standing there with the rig in my hand. In the end, Bill looked like a fool, again. This is not the first time he has been stubborn, refusing to take someone's word, and been shown he was wrong. The DZ you refer to is a good DZ, just the operator is stupid. I personally don't jump with stupid people. However, I did make one jump with him and won't do it again. Before you get your panties in a wad, no, I am not registered here. I read the threads a lot but this is the first time I felt obligated to write and will probably be the last. I just thought I should tell you the truth about what I personally have seen with my own eyes at your DZ. Thank you for your time.

I really dont care if you guys decide to talk about each other, everyone has an opinion. But if you are gonna talk about someone, have the balls and put your freakin name on it. I'm sure I probably know who you are - LOL
So Bill is now "Stupid" because he was wrong about a canopy? What do you expect? He's human, everyone eats shoe once in a while.
Sounds like you have other issues dude, call yo momma, cause I could care less.
as for me, personally, I'll jump with Bill any day of the week. I have been for 5 years. Even rode a reserve he packed. Sometimes you just have to say fuck the bollucks, and move on. I've learned alot from the man. Anyone who has been jumping actively for over 25 years, worked for a leading canopy manufacturer as a test jumper, and has successfully run a dropzone in the same place for almost 10 years, cant be all that stupid. Am I saying that he cant be wrong about things? NO, but next time your pussy hurts please bleed somewhere else, or at least leave your name.

DZ politics- :( Pyke, get over it- it was just an invitation- sounds like you needed to rant- glad you got it out, but loosen up now-- we all have opinions; we're also capable of ignoring crap that pisses us off if we want to. Skydiving's for fun, not one-upmanship. Relax, guys, it doesn't REALLY matter where we jump, just that we have fun doing it! 'Why can't we just get along??!'

Dutch,
Stttrrriiiiikke 3, you're outtta there! Once again, I think you way missed the point, but that's fine.
I too have done such things, but my point was illustrated in my previous post. Once you get on the road, with a boogie as a destination, you tend you normally want to put some distance between you and your departure point. If you stop at dz's an hour from your departure, you have to sacrifice other stops along the way if you plan on getting there by an appointed time.
And as for your beer comment...No, I am not "pissed off" and if there is ever beer in question...then I am never THAT mad to not enjoy it or the company!:)Brokeneagle you might be right...I may have needed a rant, and it is out of my system. I have a boogie in 29 hours, so I have other things to concentrate on.
As for Anonymous...W!!! Bill Scott is not my 'mentor', if you really must know who it is...it is "Chuck" Berry in NZ. Bill is just my DZO, a nice guy and a business man. As for your comment about your canopy, I am with Cyber. He is a man, and he can make mistakes. Get over it!

Ok ok...first...from what I understand Eagle, Pyke wasn't upset regarding DZ politics, he was simply expressing his irritation with Dutch's *posts*. Note the difference. I must admit that although I don't think he intends to do so, Durtch does always seem to end up talking about his DZ no matter what the thread is about. No big deal, we'll all get over it.
I take offense to the anonymous poster, although I have not met Bill yet, another DZO who is a friend of mine, Mike Palmer, tells me that Bill is an A-#1 guy with loads of great things to share. I think anyone who is going to post something actually calling another person "STUPID" should post their name. But of course, some people just have NO BALLS. Good thing you said that was the last time you were going to post to this forum...STAY OUT!
Anyway, I stand behind Pyke, Cyber and their DZ too. I think some of you took his post the wrong way anyway, so let's just end this now, shall we?

Check it out. Not sure which way you intended that the North and East Atlanta crew take, but Thomaston is not "on the way" to Elberta, Alabama. If they wanted to stop at a DZ on the way they could drop by my dad's DZ right on I-85 (exit 38 in Alabama) and throw down some canal swoops. NOT that I would stop for anything but gas and drive-thru food on a road trip to a boogie!! Their fastest route is over to Montgomery, then south on I-65.
Thomaston is a decent place to skydive, but I wouldn't go there just to be organized by a member of Nemesis (a GSL 4-way team, for those who didn't know). There are some class people on the DZ, don't get me wrong, but if I weren't going to Perris for the swoop meet the next weekend I would probably go to Flora-Bama and toss some mullets. Beach jumps into the Flora-Bama bar KICK ASS! I am talking ROCK STAR status with the beach goers. By the way, when L.B. gets to Thomaston,(Air Rage videos; just moved to Macon from North Carolina) make sure he is hooked up. That guy ROCKS!

Hmmm... I'll have to keep that in mind if I can make a trip down there some time. I was thinking you'd head down I-85 from Northeast Atlanta. Thomaston is between I-75 and I-85. I've heard EC is a cool DZ. Have to check out your Dad's place some day too. Is it still on the way if you come down I-65 instead of I-85?

I wouldn't go somewhere just for that reason either. Just one of the many weekends Doug is organizing/coaching. Doug is an awesome skydiver (25 yrs, 7000 jumps) and a great teacher. I like to do RW and FF, but whenever I get a chance to work with Doug there is no question about which I'm doing that day. I sure hope he isn't reading any of this. :$ BTW, Nemesis was 1st in the GSL and 2nd in the NSL last year. First meet of the year they had double the score of the 2nd place team.
