Deleted 0 #1 May 23, 2001 Ok, i have been jumping for about 2 years now. however this year i have really kicked it into overdrive. since march, i have completed about 70+ jumps, and have really taken a liking to rw. previously i was a freak,(although at heart i still enjoy the occasional free fly), but recently i have competed in the first ISL(indiana skydiving league) 4-way competition. i basically fell in love with rw after that. (btw, cameramonkey, i still need to get a copy of the video for round 6 from you if i could). after finishing with round 6 on sunday morning, we started taking advantage of the otter we had that day with progressivley larger ways. starting with 5, then 8, then a couple of 12,and then to top off the day i was able to participate in a 20 way(which i flew my slot and took my grip). and now for the question. at what level of experience have others started jumping bigger ways. and what kind of jumps did you do to help practice for these. just curious. thanks for the responses.jaybird

Stacy 0 #3 May 23, 2001 I started with basic 2-4 ways. WHen people knew I was fien with those adn wouldn't funnel an exit I started being base for dives up to about 12. These were just organized by jumpers around the DZ... tehn I started fillign positions like first diver/second diver- staying closer to the base. just get bigger gradually... Did some 16 way competition in ZHills, then a big way skills camp in NC. Be careful who you get with on the bigger ways, things can get hairy up there! Even if you are OK, you still have to be concerned about how everyone else is flying... a 41 way in NC resulted in a very unorganized landing pattern which made for an interesting experience.... Also try to jump with organizers. I feel much better being on a 20+ way with Boxman or Roger Ponce than a pickup dive at the DZ. Just my .02!Stacyhttp://astro.temple.edu/~sweeks
Keys 0 #4 May 23, 2001 I've got 9 months in the sport and 150 jumps. Started RW at about 40 jumps. Did 2 and 3 ways up to 60 jumps, then 4-8 ways after that, but I did get some tunnel time in. We try to do 12 ways out of a King Air but usually loose a person or two. It's a lot easier to get points out of 4 ways so I haven't been pushing the big ways.Find someone who can organize. Thats the key to the big ways. We just don't have the planes for it.
