Dutchboy 0 #26 May 24, 2001 As the altitude goes up the air gets thinner and planes climb slower and slower. Eventually they hit the service ceiling which is defined as the altitude where the climb rate drops below 100fpm. A non-turbo charged engine can't climb very high. The service ceiling for most non-turbo planes is about 14k. At this altitude oxygen for passengers also becomes an issue. It's really a law of diminishing returns. The time you need to spend for the extra 2-3k isn't worth it to you or to the DZO.The Dutchboyhttp://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
cyberskydive 0 #27 May 24, 2001 Yep-LOL- cessnas are fun for pop-n-packs, I did all of my AFF in 96 out of a 182 till level 5. Riding to 8-5 is chore in em now-LOL (spoiled) Highest I've ever been in a cessna is like 11-5, which is a long ride. But the "ghost" which is a completely restored 182 we have climbs nicer than the older 1. But as long as we can get 7 or 8 for the king air we have no worries :) D.Chisolm C-28534webmaster@sunraydesigns.comhttp://www.sunraydesigns.com
mattb 0 #28 May 24, 2001 I'm with Zennie - another "anti-merrick" I have 65 jumps. Most from a Otter, one from a skyvan and 9 from a small plane - a King Air. :)I know I'm spoiled. I kinda want to jump a Cessna except around here they tend to only fly in the winter.

what42 0 #31 May 25, 2001 QuoteYour ONLY two 182 rides?!?! Well, I've only got 10 skydives so I'm sure I'll rack up some more 182 rides. My first 4 were out of a King Air. Then my 5th and 6th jump were the 182. Numbers 7-10 were out of the CASA at the Monroe Boogie last weekend. My dz has a KingAir and 2 182s so I'm sure I'll spend good quality time with the 182.Wesley--I want to fly!
