SpeedRacer 1 #1 June 4, 2001 In the June Parachutist someone posted a letter asking for the origin of the "Him!Him!" or "Her! Her!" thing, but I can't wait for the July issue, I want to know now.Speed Racer"De plaene!! De plaene!!"

SpeedRacer 1 #3 June 4, 2001 When it is announced at the DZ that a certain skydiver has just reached some goal or done something noteworthy, the other skydivers all yell in unison:"HIM! HIM! FUCK HIM!" or " HER! HER! FUCK HER" as the case may be.They gave me a "HIM" when I was on the Otter at Pepperell because it was my first time there. Nice to know that you're welcome! So, does anyone know the origin of this custom?Speed Racer"De plaene!! De plaene!!"
Billy 0 #4 June 4, 2001 I know the "hymm" is a part of the ceremony for an SCR recipient, and that ceremony goes back like 20 yrs or so,, it may be an off chute from there,, just guessing thoBS BB

skybytch 273 #6 June 4, 2001 The correct, complete Hymn...."Hooray for speedy, hooray at last!Hooray for speedy, he's a horse's ass!!Him..... Him.....Fuck him!!!!"Near as we can tell it started (on the West Coast anyway) with Air Trash in the mid to late 70's. But don't quote me on that!pull and flare, lisa
what42 0 #7 June 4, 2001 Is this a west coast thing? I haven't heard it at my dropzone. (In Georgia) Are many skydiving traditions different from place to place?Wesley--I want to fly!

(In Georgia) Are many skydiving traditions different from place to place? You just have to hang around enough. I didn't hear it until I was on a load with a girl doing her first skydive and her first airplane ride. (Personally, I think she was fuck*ng crazy.) We gave her the "Her, Her" as takeoff run started and she laughed, but as soon as we were 6 feet off the ground she started muttering "Oh my god, oh my god" over and over. I could only smirk (all-knowing AFF V student that I was at the time) and think "Honey, if you think the view from out a window at 10 feet is scary, you ain't seen nothin' yet!!"This was in SC, by the way, so it's not a West Coast only thing.Blues, squares,PTiger*insert witty sig here*
mouth 0 #9 June 5, 2001 Is this sorta like when the tamdem JM yells "Make room for the tandems" and we all yell back "Fuc# the tandems"? Do you all do that too???
skybytch 273 #10 June 5, 2001 Nah it's more like when someone says "Blue Skies" and everyone yells back "Black Death"...pull and flare, lisa
PalmettoTiger 1 #11 June 5, 2001 QuoteIs this sorta like when the tamdem JM yells "Make room for the tandems" and we all yell back "Fuc# the tandems"? Do you all do that too???Yeah, we do that too. Now for the mandatory self-serving anecdote: one of my AFF jumps, can't remember which, was a load with no tandems - which was unusual for a midday load. So one person said "Make way for the tandems!" and everyone gleefully roared back "Fuc* the tandems!" Gee, I didn't realize they were so well-loved. Then of course someone noticed that I was taking up 2 extra slots (video and instructor) so they had to "Make way for the AFF student!" and then "Fuc* the AFF student!" Fortunately someone yelled out "Make way for the farm animals!" and everyone shut up.Blues, squares,PTiger*insert witty sig here*
mouth 0 #12 June 5, 2001 It has become a tradition on every load for the tandem guys to start it even if they are fun jumping (of course we finish it). I think it has a way of relaxing everyone before we bomb the door. I know I always go out with a smile.

Deleted 0 #14 June 5, 2001 The first time this happened to a girl-friend of mine, she was at Z-Hills and was buying beer for her first time jumping there. Everyone started yelling "HER, HER, F&*% HER". And she thought it was a bad thing and was thinking to herself...."but.....but ....I bought beer...." lol lol. She was quickly filled in on the tradition. Tee
SpeedRacer 1 #15 June 5, 2001 The Hymn tradition is definitely not just a West Coast thing. I've only been to DZs on the East Coast & I've heard it at several DZs. And I also know it was invented a long time ago. I jump at the oldest DZ in Virginia (Skydive the Point) and the old timers there do the Hymn thing. I still don't know how it started though.Speed Racer"De plaene!! De plaene!!"
