???front riser turns???

Recommended Posts

I've been playing with front riser turns the last couple of jumps (from high altitiudes of coarse) and I was just wondering how far down can you pull on the riser? I'm still kinda scitish when it comes to pulling down to far. I grab at an arms reach and pull about half way between my shoulder and where I grabbed. Is it possible to pull too far and have the canopy collapse under itself or do you all give a good hard pull past your shoulder? By the way I fly a PD170 at approx .98

hey lazer,
i fly a sabre loaded at 1.3:1 and i'll grab at the dive loop (just about where the toggle is) and pull down to my shoulder(well not all the way down but more than 3/4th of the way) slowly, it gives a nice turn with a great loss of altitude! i have no idea on your canopy though, when i had my pd210 i never really played to much with riser turns since it didn't really doi much for me then......smaller faster, more hightly loaded and it makes much more of a diffrence!

You can pull them down quite a bit on the canopy you're jumping. Go slow and see how the canopy reacts to different amounts of input.
Play with front riser dives too - pull both down the same amount and see how it changes the canopy's angle of attack. A friend of mine used to fly a 7 cell F111 with front risers all the time - he'd hang on them on final (for more forward speed) and let up just before he flared (kept toggles in hands throughout...).
pull and flare,
lisa
