pyke 0 #1 June 19, 2001 I was just wondering....I am considering getting a new container and while I am a firm believer in Javelin (odyssey - if I buy it new)...I was talking to someone this weekend about the Voodoo container and he couldn't shut up about it. Overlooking his zealous impression...what do any of the Voodoo flyers in here think of them?? Are there any?? (I am a belly flyer, but *may* try freeflying later in my career, so it isn't much of an issue now)With the reputation behind Talon...and taking all the options that you pay for in a Javelin and making them standard with Voodoo, it sounds like this may (MAY!!) be a better option.any takers??Kia Kaha,PykeNZPF A - 2584
Aviatrr 0 #2 June 20, 2001 I have a few jumps on a Voodoo, and it was awesome.. It is amazingly comfortable, very secure, and looks good.. I can't compare it to an Odyssey because I have never even seen one - much less jumped one.. The price difference is around $250 when you account for all the options added to the Odyssey to make it comparable to the Voodoo.. I don't know whether the cut in laterals on the Odyssey are a good or bad thing.. I have never had any problem with my Talon sliding around on my back during freefall - and it does not have cut in laterals.. It seems to me that it would make it uncomfortable under canopy.. Like I said, I haven't jumped one yet.. I am planning on buying a Voodoo as my next container, probably in the next few months.. I will, however, demo an Odyssey before I make the final decision..Something to consider is the size of the canopies you plan on buying.. Currently, the Voodoo is only sized to hold up to a 150 main and 143/150 reserve.. Certain larger canopies, with smaller pack volumes, will likely fit in those containers with no problems.. I have a Talon 2 sized for a 150 main - I can stuff a Hornet 190 in there, a Sabre 170, or a Spectre 170.. To be sure whether or not it will fit, send an e-mail to Sandy Reid at Rigging Innovations and ask him if the specific canopy you plan to buy will fit.. You could also likely get a larger reserve in there if you go with a Tempo, as they have smaller pack volumes..Mike
freefallfreak 0 #3 June 20, 2001 Pyke,Dude, do I ever have a deal on a brand new Javalin for you. All the bells and whistles, and I mean all the bells and whistles, and still in the box it came in...I gotta break in a brand new engine in the Bear this weekend (yeah, I dropped a valve and blew a hole in the side of the block big enough to stick your head through. That's ok though, I got a new engine being built as I speak. Thank you for paying your taxes, Sis, tee-hee) so I'll be driving it to Monroe and If you are gonna be there, I'll bring the container with me...Oh yeah, I got a brand new Tony Suit also that has never even been worn that matches it...FFF
SkymonkeyONE 4 #4 June 20, 2001 First, the Voodoo is a nice rig. The only problem with it is that the yoke is very wide. If you are a small guy (can't tell by your picture) then it sits quite wide on your shoulders. I personally don't care much for the center flap design either, but that's aesthetics and many people love it. As for people jumping them for RW, George Jicha (the organizer) swears by his.The ONLY reason I bought my Javelin Odyssey instead of another Vector (I had jumped them for the past ten years)was because of the cut-in lateral backstraps. It is the DEFINING characteristic of the rig and makes for the most comfortable fit I have ever experienced. The fully articulated harness rocks too. I have the very smallest size you can get and in the older (pre-odyssey) models, they would slide all over your back. This new rig sticks to you and does not move. The yoke is narrower on the Jav, and as I am a small guy (5'7", 155 lbs.)Under canopy this feature seems to give you a little more ability to "harness steer", but that might just be my impression. I am very happy with it. Chuck
flyingferret 0 #5 June 20, 2001 Pyke,I don't have any jumps on a VooDoo. However, I thought I would say a bit about Rigging Innovations. I jump a Talon2 and am extremely pleased. I bought it used and was lucky to get a container that fit almost perfectly. My container is very comfy, but I really like the support of Rigging Innovations. The few times I had questions I received almost instantaneous response from their email support. Now, I am sure SunPath may be the same way. I just thought I would mention that in my opinion RI did an excellent job supporting an excellent product.Malachi
pyke 0 #6 June 20, 2001 FFF,Hey man, could you send me an email with the characteristics of the javelin you had in mind. I am looking for something in a particular size...(ie. J1 C-17), so hopefully this rig you mentioned is close to or there..otherwise, I can tell you now...gone are the "make do" days..my legs can't take the opening shock of a smaller container anymore.Get back to me - cheers,Kia Kaha,PykeNZPF A - 2584
