Donna 0 #4 June 26, 2001 I still have one of the old crappy 28,000 k ones. The phone lines around here can't get more than that anyway. Hopefully cable will get here soon.Skies,D
SkymonkeyONE 4 #5 June 26, 2001 Yep. I have 56k modem at home, but hardly ever get a connection above 28.8k. I know, dial-up sucks, but I don't really do much there because I am normally at the DZ anyway. Here at work I am on a T1 LAN and haul ass all day so I can't bitch.Chuck
mattb 0 #6 June 26, 2001 modems are cheaper than dsl/cable which means more money for skydiving hopefully some year i'll have broadband but that would involve ameritech pulling it's head out of it's *#@ so it will probably be a while
skybytch 273 #7 June 26, 2001 56k modem at home. Live too far from town for DSL, local cable company doesn't offer internet access, can't afford a T1.56k modem with 7 workstations attached to it at work. We could have a way better set up here but you people refuse to pay list price for gear.... pull and flare, lisa
freaksister 0 #8 June 26, 2001 Poor Lisa, having to cut good deals for her fellow skydivers!! heheI got a cable modem and it rocks! I get so used to it that when I go out of town and use my laptop, which has a 56K modem, I am like pulling my hair out! LOL We are SO spoiled these days! Think about it! Not just internet/computer technology, but what about skydiving gear? I have had countless conversations with old timers about how much better the gear is today...then I go off and bitch because my harness doesn't fit. Horizontals are 1" too short AND it was custom! Oh well, I got nothing to complain about right?? Right, so I got off on a tangent there...guess my point is: High Speed Internet Access RULES!!!!!!!!!!! but at least we have the net...SisThe road to hell is paved with good intentions-but sometimes, good intentions are all we humans have. PalmettoTiger 1 #12 June 27, 2001 Quotemodems are cheaper than dsl/cable which means more money for skydiving Actually my cable service (Time Warner/Roadrunner) is $2 less than a dialup account and a second phone line, which I would need since I spend so much time here.
