Broken tail-bone action!

Recommended Posts

I broke my coccyx on a demo this past Friday. Idiocy pure and simple. I decided that I would have no problem sticking my wife's Stiletto 120 into this pretty tight spot, botched the approach, overflew the target and bowtied the canopy on landing. I hopped right up, dusted off the evidence, packed the rig, then walked around for a bit. Figured out the real deal when I hopped in the car to leave: OUCH! I wrote a detailed description in the Safety And Training forum. Check it out if you like. Anyway, I have a ton of Percocets but it still hurts to sit, even doped up.

Bummer dude...I can't imagine what it would be like not to be able to sit down.
going to the bathroom...laying in bed...all that nice relaxing stuff.
Sorry to hear about it, but if you say that it was pure idiocy.....then SUCKS to be YOU!!!!;):D:P

Man oh man. That shit hurts! I never broke mine, but I banged it pretty hard once when I wiped-out in a MX race. Hurt for weeks and weeks. Even now if I hit it on something it smarts pretty good.
My uncle DID brake his many many years ago and still can't spend lotsa time on his butt... he deserves eternal pain though. The bastard broke my skateboard >:( instead of whacking my dad for talking him into riding the thing in the first place!!
Let it heal properly!

Dude, I remember an old saying: "Better to die, than look bad." That's cool you were able to *walk* it off. Glad you're okay. Live and learn, to jump another day.

Yeah....I thought I did the same thing last week. Not as spactacularly...and didn't dust myself off...screamed in pain until the chase truck got out to me and then dusted myself off. Gave it a few days then went for xrays.....coccyx was fine, but there was a quarter sized spot on my pelvis on the right (just so happened my right ass cheek hurt like hell).
They told me to get a bone scan to see if I chipped my pelvis or if it was just a really bad bruise showing up on the xray, but it feels much better now. Still hurts if I sit still for an extended period of time, but much better, pretty sure it's just bruised.

Watch out! A friend of mine was unable to get pregnant and had basically given up on having any kids. She biffed a landing, broke her tail bone, and 6 months later was pregnant.
Okay, so you're a guy and it doesn't really relate... but it's still a good story...

I hope I am not the only one here to see this...but....
if her tailbone was getting in the way of her getting pregnant....I think it is pretty safe to say that she was IN THE WRONG HOLE!!!!:o
Perhaps it was the pain of entry that finally made her try the second hole and :o hot damn it works!!!!! A baby!!!

ps Chuck, I hope you heal up soon.........you've got to be careful with your ass.......it doesn't take much to break them, 'cause they're already cracked.....

Sorry to hear about the accident Chuck. Good to hear you were able to walk away! :)I had 2 friends this weekend that weren't so lucky. One friend now has a rod in her femur from sticking out a hand on landing, and the other hurt himself on a hook turn. The winds did a complete 180 in about 2 seconds flat and he ended up downwind on the last half of his carve so there was no air to bring him out of the dive. Needless to say, he also has a rod in his femur and reconstructed arteries in his arm and the joint in his elbow is permanently messed up. BUT, could have been worse...thank gawd for those little angels. :)Tee

Hey Chuck
YOu know them cracker practers can adjust tail bones too. But of course there is only one way to get to them. :S
So get one with small fingers and a lot of lube. :D If you don't want to go that route, take it easy for a few weeks and eat plenty of fiber foods. :)Some fun eh!

Chuck!
I read the other string first, but didn't realize you LITERALLY busted your ass! Heal quickly, my friend . . . it happens to the best of us.
As a matter of fact, I seem to remember a story about some big dude taking out a speaker pole doing a demo at an Air Force base?!?! Hmmm....
Respectfully,
SP

I broke my tailbone as a student, just like the other person...I sat down on landing, except I did flare! Sigh...anyway, I went to the doctor but I DID NOT get percocets! You SUCK! I had to just grin and bear it, bear the weight on my ass that is! I also tried one of those rubber donut things and it hurt worse that way! A pillow helped some...
Goodluck and get well soon!

Just pretend you are a fancy lady with a very short skirt. Seat leaning sideways, legs crossed (using one of your cheeks). It'll hurt less and you might make new friends :)
In one o my first jumps a line busted, I was quite confused, the guy on the radio was very emphatic about what I should do (but he did not notice the mal), canopy was flyable but I dropped like a sack of potatos in the edge of the safety zone, crosswinds right between a ditch and some power lines.
Had to sit leaning in one side for about a month.

on my AFF level 2 jump I thought I broke my butt, but ended up after X-Rays and stuff I hadn't. I knew if I told the ER doc that my butt hurt she wouldnt give me meds, but if I told her my back hurt she would...wouldnt ya know it I got my Darvocet and vicodin.
helps that I bring pt's to her all the time too.

Check out the ratings...she has you beat honey.
Sorry about your tail bone. I busted in on my first landing and couldn't sit for months. (NO, JKA it was not in the jumpsuit you bought so don't worry!) Guess most of us have been there so at least you are in good company.
