mountainman 0 #1 July 11, 2001 Hey all!I am wondering what the rules are for a pilot to fly jumpers. My grandpa is a pilot and has a plane. What are the rules for him to fly me to a large field in the middle of nowhere and me to jump?? If you know, please let me know! Thanks a million to all the great pilots that we need to jump. PhreeZone 20 #2 July 11, 2001 I'm not a pilot but I know from helping on demos that all jumps are to occur with FAA clearence. That clearence can come in the form of an annual waiver (most common on DZ's) or by special permit ie a demo. You just have to declare out the time and area for the jump and file a request with your local FSD. Then they approve it or deny it. If its approved you only have your time window (10 minutes) to do the jump. This is to allow other traffic in the area to be rerouted if needed. Also if the pilot recieves any money then I believe they have to be commercial rated. Another factor is the insurance on the plane. If the plane has not been modified for jumping and then jumping occurs and causes the plane to crash then I doubt that the policy would still be good for the airframe. Speaking of insurance, I think your USPA insurance is only good if you are jumping at an DZ. I know for demos you are to file for extra insurance to cover any damages you do to property.But thats not to say you could'nt do a bandit jump and get away with it.Whoa... That was cool! Krishan 0 #7 July 11, 2001 Hey I'm from New Mexico and its more like 750-1000 balloons. It's called the Balloon Fiesta and it is awesome to watch, they all go up at once. A few friends of mine did a balloon jump during it last year. If you've got a friend here who is willing to take jumpers, I'm sure there are plenty of people here willing to pay for that. Maybe if they hold a wedding or something. I could come in with my wife to my bro's wedding (when that happens) and give him the ring. DAMN!!
