Zennie 0 #1 July 22, 2001 I've loked all over the Net for a web site devoted to obtaining medical/life insurance for "high-risk" activities such as skydiving. I haven't found anything very useful so I decided it was high time someone do something about it, and that someone is me. What I'd like to set up is a page that lists companies that offer policies to skydivers, the costs of the policies, the benefits offered, etc. I might even have a list of skydiver-unfriendly companies to stay away from. I dunno. This is till in the planning stage. Heck, maybe even bossman could host it as part of dz.zom! In any event I need your help. If you know of any companies or websites with useful information I'd appreciate the references. I'd really like to get this to a point where it will be easier for us to find insurance. I know there are companies out there, it's just really difficult to find.------------Blue Skies!Zennie
PLFKING 4 #2 July 22, 2001 The Zenmeister !!Don't know if this helps, but when I started jumping, I had our H.R. co-ordinator call United Healthcare, who is our regular carrier. I'm single, and never sick, so I only carry the basic policy (with group rates). They said I was covered. The PLF Goombah
pyke 0 #3 July 22, 2001 One of the j/ms at Monroe told me about her policy....I believe it is through State Farm. She sounded like she had a pretty sweet policy, even though she is a skydiver. They are used to people asking about it now, so they had a sheet that they made her fill out with things like last jump, number of mals, cypres yes or no, how many jumps in a year, what ratings, do you freefly etc...so, you might have some luck ringing their customer service dept.tryin' to help.Kahurangi e Mahearangi,Pyke NZPF A - 2584USPA C- ????? sangiro 26 #4 July 22, 2001 Zennie - you're onto something.... I've had countless requests for this exact info. I will gladly host it on Dropzone.com if you put in the leg-work to organize the effort to gather information... We may even want to consider setting up some kind of a review / comment section for people who may have dealt with some of these companies before... just a thought. It would be good to start with the base info though. Let me know how I can help...Safe swoopsSangiro
skybytch 273 #5 July 23, 2001 I can't afford life insurance so I have no opinion there (omg! the bytch doesn't have an opinion!!! *checking self for fever*). My medical insurance (Pacific Care hmo) didn't give me any hassle about my back problem (cost them about $30K total) even though I was very honest with the doctors about how I screwed myself up. This may change in the future of course, but haven't heard anything from them about that yet.Good luck! That's a great idea!pull and flare,lisa----I am a nobody. Nobody's perfect. DBTECH 0 #6 July 23, 2001 American family Insurance will give you health/medical insurance knowing that you are a skydiver. Not having life insurance, I do not know their policy on that for a skydiver. They were also the only company that would insure my home built travel/video production trailer. (for $18K)They seem like a very informed company.Check them out, good luck,Dave Brownell
Zennie 0 #7 July 23, 2001 This is exactly the kind of stuff i'm looking for! Thanks and keep the info coming. And thanks bossman for offering to host the "site"! It may be a couple of weeks since I'm in crunch mode at work, but I think this will be a good resource for readers.BTW, HH, has anyone been able to help you with the mySQL stuff? My offer is still on the table by my time is kinda limited right now.------------Blue Skies!Zennie
jfields 0 #8 July 23, 2001 Zennie,This would be a great resource. I just went through the hassle of lining up some insurance myself. You can add the info to your list.Company: First Colony (General Electric subsidiary)Product: 30-year term (they had others)Skydiving Premium: $2.50/$1,000 of coverage in addition to base rateI now have some insurance that covers skydiving, and some that doesn't. I did pick up the USPA-affiliated Accidental Death & Dismemberment insurance for the maximum $100,000 of coverage. I think it was $240 per year.JustinMember of the Whuffo Conversion Team

chicagoskydiver 0 #10 July 23, 2001 I have a life policy with Allstate which covers skydiving. However, it is rated up and the rate is approximately equal to a smoker's rate, even though I don't smoke. They also rate up for activities like scuba diving. I used to be an agent for American Family Insurance and their policy is the same.Hackey
zelda 0 #11 July 23, 2001 Hey Zennie,I'm glad you're doing this; I know a lot of people have been scrambling since the insurance companies have been able to exclude coverage on "high risk" injuries.I talked to my HMO a couple of weeks ago...I'm covered through my job with Regence/HMO Oregon, and they said they are NOT denying coverage for injuries from high risk activities (whew!!). I don't know the status of my life insurance, but the safe bet is probably no coverage if I die skydiving.blues, zelda
