skybytch 273 #1 July 24, 2001 *You may already know about this, but for those who haven't heard yet - I copy/pasted the following from an email I received at work today.* -----A new virus surfaced last week that could make your life miserable. Symantec's website has the details.http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sircam.worm@mm.htmlThis virus propagates by randomly selecting an email address from a *.wab file (That's a Windows Address Book file from Outlook or IE email). The virus sends the email randomly EVERY time an executable file in run onthe infected machine. It stops after 8000.The virus may nuke all your files on your C drive with a 1 in 33 chance (serious stuff here). 1 in 20 chance on Oct 16 of any year. Please read the link above and DO NOT open executables you receive via email EVER!!!(Executables include *.com *.exe *.pif *.bat...) You DO NOT want to get this virus. It will mean many hours of down time, especially if you are in a networked environment. Calculate 45-60 minutes per machine X number of machines. No one can be on the network during the virus removal.---end copy/pasteWe received 15 emails with the virus at my work - today! - in both English and Spanish versions. It's nasty and it's spreading fast. Please pass this info on to your friends!pull and flare,lisa----I am a nobody. Nobody's perfect. Therefore, I am perfect!
