freeflir29 0 #1 August 6, 2001 Jump number 2 today. Uneventful 3 way free fly. Corked, tracked, went to dump at 3,000. Pulled the P/C about half way out and it slipped out of my fingers. The Captain has now turned on the "Oh Shit" light. Feel free to scream like a little girl. I knew the handle was now waving around wildly in the wind. So, I calmly reached back, grabbed the base of the P/C and pulled it on out, threw it. The rest of the deployment went fine. Good day of skydiving but I got a little more adrenaline for my 19 bucks on that one. WooHooo!"Show me your Tits" -MeClay

PLFKING 4 #3 August 6, 2001 Hey Clay --Man, must be something in the Raeford air ! I was there Saturday with a friend. Did a botched 3-way, tracked away, and pulled at 4000. Opened into severe line-twist, and a hard right spiral. I started kicking like mad, but it was twisting up as fast as I could untwist it. Finally kicked them all out, but by now I was down to about 2200, and STILL spiraling ! Finally saw that my right toggle was still stowed, but my left brake line had snapped about 3 inches above the keeper loop. I thought about chopping for about 2 seconds (I sometimes think it would take an Act of God or a flaming canopy for me to actually cut one away !), but I always practice rear riser turns and flares at least every other jump, so I felt good about riding it down. I knew I had to flare even later, because I was using my risers, and actually surfed it in on my knees for about 10 feet. Cool ! (I may have found a solution for my flaring woes -- just remove the toggles and brake lines altogether !)Practice, practice, practice, kids....you never know when it will come in handy. The PLF Practitioner
Albatross 0 #4 August 6, 2001 Glad to hear that the almost mals weren't. I don't think that you could pry that hacky out of my hand with a damn crow bar but nice save. Flare Damn it!!!!!Albatross
freeflir29 0 #5 August 6, 2001 Broken lines suck! Havent had one yet.........I usually have no problem with this sort of thing but I think it may have been caused by excessive moisture on my hands. It was pretty cloudy/hazy over Skydive Atlanta yesterday and my hands felt wet every time I got under canopy. I think it made my fingers a bit slippery."Show me your Tits" -MeClay
skreamer 1 #6 August 6, 2001 QuoteThe Captain has now turned on the "Oh Shit" light. Feel free to scream like a little girl.v.funny! lol Had something similar happen to me in Germany in April. It was bloody cold, decided after first jump one pair of gloves NOT enough. Bought second pair, wore over first pair. Next jump couldn't get grip on PC, went out and back in, got PC out on 2nd second attempt, but still pulled lowish, landed out. Sphincter in spasms for hours afterwards (underpants still clean though)./sPS sorry couldn't keep that one under 50 words
freeflir29 0 #7 August 6, 2001 wore over first pairI hate gloves! I only wear them when it is absolutely necessary. Although I'm starting to consider putting some on for the canopy ride. Yankin on the risers is really starting to tear up my hands."Show me your Tits" -MeClay
