Home at last!

Recommended Posts

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
After three years away from the sport I finally got back in the air last night, 13 and a half grand out of the caravan and the same again this morning.
:)It's real hard to describe it but, while i was nervous it was a kind of excited feeling too, kinda like a kid waiting to go into Disneyland or something ;)
The best way I can put it into words was the thought was came into my mind as i was half way down the hill this morning; "home at last".
Honest to God it was more a sheer sense of *relief* than anything else.
If i could kiss the sky and give it a big hug i would... along with the words "don't worry baby i promise i won't leave you again.."
See ya'll in the sky sometime :D

Thanks folks... it filled a hole in me thats' been there the last few years... always knew what was missing.. :)Reason I had to give it up at the time was a combination of rarely getting weekends off (1 in 8 if i was lucky) in my employment at the time, low pay and having just bought a house.
However I've since left that job, now have my own biz, am looking to buy a new rig in a couple of months and am already wondering where to shag off to for a week or so this winter for a jumping holiday (once i convince my non-jumping better half! ;))

I know exactly how you feel. I was out of the sport for 22 years before making a come back this year. The changes were unreal, but it's still just as awsome as it ever was, maybe even more so with the modern canopy rides. Good luck and stay with it this time.

freaksister: whilst i hadn't jumped in that time i kept in contact with the sport through the net, the usual mags and the folks down at the club.
I had a chat with one of the AFF instructors and we went through all the safety stuff, since I was giving all the right answers he decided to bring me up to do a half-series (linked exit, released me staight away, practise pull, alt-check, backloop and recover ,whee!, alti-check, right-turn, alti-check, left-turn, alti, forward to instructor, alti, wave-off at 5 grand and pull, woowhoo!)
It went fine but i was a bit wobbly in free-fall. The solo yesterday morning was much better. It felt great to turn where i wanted to much smoother..
I kinda favour rw so after a couple more solos practising my body pos i'll get one of the lads to do some 2-way instructional with me and then work from there :)The plan is sometime this winter i'd like to take a week or more somewhere sunny and just jump my ass off, maybe even combine it with some tunnel time? Haven't made my mind up yet.
Think my girlfriend is getting worried about the 'competition' though ;)

Congrats......I was out for 3 years once. Jumping again was something else. My first jump back was a night jump (Military) It was a little crazy but went well. The vacation you describe sounds like it can only be done(W/tunnel) in Florida. Deland would be an excellent choice. The tunnel isnt too far away in Orlando.

Welcome back!
We has a guy this weekend that came back after 32 years!! The guy has 677 jumps and the two he made this weekend were his first under a Ram-Air and His first Relative Work jumps (yes he knows he owes beer)! All of his previous jumps were style and accuracy.
