HOLY SHIT ARTHUR DID YOU BREAK YOUR HIP!?!?!

Recommended Posts

HAHA Got ya ;) but thats what everybody in the video room said when they played my lvl 5 video. My arch is so extreme that it looks like i broke somthing but i am very comfy in that position once again my jm was having trouble keeping up with me. His protrak said my avg speed was 155!!!!:o :)This is the new exit So i climb out and look at Mike my jm and Joe my camera guy. READY SET GOOOO!!!!! i step out into the wind and watch the plane fall away for some reason i am damn close to hyperventalating(i know i didn't spell it right) but once we get off the hill its all good i do one practice touch which goes perfct and then Mike swings around infront still handing on to my rig at the three rings. At this point he is slightly above me due to my hauling ass and everything. He lets go of me i start spinning but stop it quick and then i turn back to face him. He trys to get me to slow down a bit by putting my legs farther out. this doesn't do shit so he just tucks his arms in and gives the left 360 signal. *hand the heavens open up* I did the turn nice and stable and stopped right on him :)he then gives me the right 360 signal which i propty get to doing. but this time i start moving my legs more than i should and i start to wobble and shit, but i get the turn done check alti holy cow its almost 6K how did that happen!!!!! (i didn't know how fucking fast i was going at the time) but i shake my head at him and lock on. I did a kinda quick wave and pull once again stable and on my own my chute inflates and i scream and whoop and stuff b/c i got the turning shit down :)now for my lvl 6 which i also did today. Exit is a solo exit which i pull off without any tumbling or flipping I find Adam my jm right off the bat who is below (he falls fast too :) i geuss i was worries about punching through 4 grand b/c thats the hard deck for my jump. but in anycase i pulled and got to play around with three tandems that got out after me ( we were the first ones out) this landing was any better i had to fall forward onto my hand and got a million of those little burns stuck into my palm ouchy!!
So thats it for this weekend and next weekend I will have my own cheering section on the ground :)

in time Nathan you will be doing the same things and more. Remember you can NEVER arch too much and just relax that will help from running into many of the probs that i have. Oh ya if your job gets in the way of skydiving you need a new job buddy ;) good luck man

Uhh...what is your height/weight? It's damn rare to see somebody average anywhere near that speed on their belly.. If you really do - you'll be a hit with the freeflyers that want to do hybrid dives.. Maybe your JM had his pro-track in TAS mode rather than SAS mode - which would show much higher than actual skydiver 'airspeed'.. I average 160 in a sit, 115-120 on my belly, and 180-200 head down.....that's all based on SAS......and I'm about 5'11 and 210 out the door..
Anyways, congrats on the level 5 & 6! You're almost there.. Just think....then you'll be allowed to jump by yourself, and with people other than instructors! :o

Avaitrr I am 6'3" and weight about 185-190 without gear. well after a jump i am probly about 6'1" 1/2 ;)
and about the TAS and SAS one of the guys brought that up when he read out the number from accross the room but i never did find out which one his is set on. but he is an Active navy SEAL so i would guess his stuff if setup correctly. In anycase Trina (Whiskychick) and i will probly be able to do a hybrid dive b/c she is really small and is a freeflyer. But dude you have to see my stills!!! i had no idea my legs could bend that far :o i will have them up on the board by atleast tues night. In my vid you can see right under my rig and see sky on the other side and its about a 2 1/2 inch gap!!

Hey Viking
If your sure that speed is correct you could be in for one major slammer. I don't know what your jumping now, but many parachutes will slam you at that speed. You might want to check into a jump suit that slows you down some or even relax your arch a little. Check with your instructors cause I don't think they have thought about the hard opening you may end up with.

cloud9 i hadn't thought of that either good point. Right now i am jumping the standard manta 288 its an f-111 so getting slammed isn't much of an issue. When i get my own gear i plan on getting a Spectre b/c i plan on doing camera work once i get my 200 jumps in (my dz says you have to have that many before they let put a camera on). combine that chute with a nice wideleged righ and i will be a happy stack of bricks :)Remember when Sex was safe and skydiving was Dangerous?

That is what I thought....until after AFF. Now you have to actually adjust your fall rate. I did my fast/slow fall rate jump on Saturday and you should start dearching a little and find something comfortable that you can play with. For instance, if you are jumping with a super-arch right now, you will not be able to speed-up if you have to. You should really flatten out a bit and find something that you can be stable with AND that you can have the ability to change your fallrate and stay with other jumpers. From what I've heard, if you fall at 155 on your belly, you'll be DAMN low for your RW work and all that other belly stuff.

Damn!! Send your packers my way. They must know more about packing than ours do. Those big F-111 canopies are anything but slow opening. Almost every opening I have had with a Manta have been ball crushing, leg burning, neck jarring SLAMS.:)A lot of my jumps from 3 on were using a Raider 220 and those have been hard almost everytime too. There was one that had a really nice snivel (that I almost chopped since it took about 1000 ft) and then yesterday I got bad line twists (4) and the slider was NOT going down(1/3 the way down)....I almost chopped after about 10 sec of semi-fast decesnt. Anyway, I hope that you are getting softer openings than I am.
I can't wait to get some gear. I am looking at a Wings container with articulated harness, PIDA Hornet, Dash-M, and Cypress. That would be AWESOME!!:)--------------

Man, that's exactly my dream-gear. What's holding me back is that I'm on a diet right now and I am waiting to lose some weight before getting the harness custom-fit and a lighter canopy.
I just bought my first piece of equipment, a pair of gloves. Since reciever gloves are not commonplace in my country I ended up getting some very nice bycicle gloves. Following will be an altimeter, jumpsuit (with booties), helmet and Pro-Dytter. I would like to get a full face helmet, those Havocs look pretty safe, by the way, have the new Z1s solved the problem of linings coming off?
Does anyone know how much would it cost to have a Cypress waterproofed? A couple of nearby dropzones are surrounded by creeks (no, I'm not trying to pond swoop a Hornet... yet ).

Hey mike,,,thats about my speed right?

Hell, if you would've been falling that fast, I would've just gone to a sit to hang with ya.. Maybe a slow sit.. I think we were doing around 130-135 on that jump.. That's SAS, for those that care..

Yo XYBE......that is sweet that it is what you want. However, you shouldn't let some weight hold you back. I am planning on loosing 15 pounds, but you can always have your stuff resized. It would be worth the extra $$ to have it now. If you go to para-service, you can get HOOKED UP with what I just told you for $3650. That guy will give you a great deal!! Check it out....:)--------------

I'm with Brandon on this one. You definitely *can* arch too much for other people to keep up with - I've had that happen to me. It is great to have that sort of capability though. If you can do a good slow fall (<120mph) you'll have a nice range and be able to match fall rates with the vast majority of jumpers out there (including some flying in a sit :)

Drooling profusely... Now you really got me started :D, I think I will cough up a few bucks on an international call to para-service. Rental gear sucks buttermilk, especially when I alternate DZs, I never jump enough to get the feeling of any given canopy. Besides, having my own stuff would allow me some much needed packing sessions.
How tolerant would the Wings container be to downsizing canopies? I plan on starting with a 210 and moving to a 190 later on. I've heard Hornets pack small, so this might help.
I think I'll take this to the gear&rigging forum.

Well, I'm sure you weren't doing 155 average, then.. If so, your JM would have likely needed to sitfly to keep up.. With your build, I'd say you'd probably average around 125-130 max.. Maybe the 155 was a maximum speed reached during the dive, or maybe it was set to TAS rather than SAS..

Well, when you're talking about SAS and TAS on the pro-track, there is no right or wrong - it's just a matter of preference.. As altitude and/or temperature increase, TAS(True AirSpeed) increases because the air is 'thinner'.. SAS(Skydivers AirSpeed) is effectively how fast you are moving through the air.. In airplanes, we use IAS(Indicated AirSpeed) which is basically the same as SAS....it shows how fast you are moving through the air mass.. SAS is 'normalized' for, I believe, a 4,000ft altitude with standard temp/pressure just to give consistent readings..
If that doesn't make any sense, here it is in as basic terms as I can make it.. The higher you go, and the hotter it is, the faster you move through the air.....BUT, for a given body position, you will have the same amount of airspeed(air flowing over your body) to maneuver with regardless of altitude/temp.. This holds true for typical jump altitudes - but not for extreme altitudes..
There I go again, making shit more complicated than it needs to be.. :D

Yes, the Hornet packs quite small.. I put a 190 into a container sized for a 150ZP canopy.. Many 150ZP canopies fit fairly tight in my container(such as the Spinneto).. The 190 Hornet was a very tight fit, but it went in there without a problem.. For a Hornet 210, I'd say a container sized for most 170ZP canopies will work, and allow you to downsize considerably.. My container will take a Crossfire 129, or even as small as an Extreme VX 99.. The VX packs quite large(due to all the cross-bracing) - so most canopies I could only go as small as a 120 size.. I don't see myself going any smaller than a 120 anytime soon.. :)Mike

Yo XYBE....I think you should just shoot them an email. I sent one last night at 2am and there were two waiting for me this morning at 8:30am. Here is the contact page you can fill the form out and they will get back to you pronto.
I am thinking about getting a 170 Hornet. If I fly it conservatively for awhile and just learn. If so, I think it'll last me quite a long time. Good luck dude!!!

Hey, Arthur.
I believe it. I demo'd a Protract yesterday, and in a very baggy jumpsuit and with lighter gear (Jav. Odessy and Spectre 230 - both are sweet!), and actively de-arching and getting ready for the rw work I have to do, (keeping my hands in front, "under my pillow"), and even with leveling out my legs, lowering my head slightly and flattening my spine, I still averaged 133 on #1, 136 on #2, and 131 on #3. The absolute lowest speed I could get was 119.
I knew I fell fast, but this is faster than even my (admittedly poor) math skills brought out. I wonder what I could do if I tried.
And thanks for the reminder, Cloud9, about slowing down. But how the hell do I get slower???????

Hehehehe yourself. No, it's not something a gentleman asks a lady.
Suffice it to say that I am not tall, and I am not slender. Curvey, yes. Voluptuous, yes. Rubenesque, yes. Twiggy? No. The perfect american model? Not hardly. Not even when I was a kid.
I figure if I cut my hair, I could lose an easy 2 lbs. The rest I am working on. I am really rather flexible, as well. On one of my jumps, I just wanted to see if I could reach back and grab my ankles without bending my legs to my bottom. Yup, no problem (now, isn't that an interesting mental picture this early in the morning??).

Hehe. That's my really fast fall position. If I want to get down to someone in a hurry, I grab my ankles behind my back and pull them in and I'm down in no time. It works pretty well when you're right over the target so you can't really swoop, but need to get down quickly. When you're a skinny bastard like me you have to learn these tricks. ;)
