He machine dealer has asked for sample materials to be sure the folder is working while he has it in the shop. What would u send him? Thanks again. JerryBaumchen 1,467 #3 October 1, 2014 Hi Ian, QuoteWhat would u send him? Not a real easy question to answer. Rob's thoughts are good: A mocked up side flap containing 2 layers of Cordura and an MDS stiffener. But I would add to this to have binding tape along the edge also. It has been a number of years ago that I ordered a 90 degree binding attachment from Henderson Sewing ( they sub'd it out to Tennessee Attachments ). They also asked me to send them a sample of the thickest material that I would be sewing. They still made it somewhat too small; however, I usually can make it do what I want it to do. But, a slightly larger opening would be better. Unless you could be with them when they make it, you are somewhat shooting in the dark. And that is too bad because those binding attachments are not cheap. Good luck, Jerry Baumchen
RiggerLee 63 #4 October 1, 2014 I'm not sure about the "While HE has it in the shop." part of that statement. Make several samples including the thickest thing you would ever want to bind. May or may not be a side flap. Make sure he sends at least one set of samples to TN. That's where they need them. Not in his shop after the fact to see if it will work. He may or may not have done a bunch of custom attachments like this with them before. IHazySky 0 #5 October 1, 2014 Thickest thing I think I would do is joining the flaps to the container, or the flap/stiffener combo thickness. Will eventually be building non TSO single parachute systems. (Once I get way more skill ;)) that's' the 40/1000 mds for the container stiffener and a layer of cordura, then parapack inside... Hmmmm... So I am thinking to send 2 layers 1000d cordura with 3/4" type III and the 1/16" MDS. What else?
