pyke 0 #4 August 17, 2001 Hey Moose, glad to hear you're planning on going...let me see if I can be of any help to you...Depending on where you fly in to (considering it is from the UK, it most likely will be Auckland)...North Island:Auckland - there are several tandem only dropzones around...and a few parachute schools. I jumped in Mercer (nice views on the way up, wierd vibe at the dz, only female TM in the country, C-206), but that is like an hour outside the city. Most places are weekend only, some that I know of are...There is one in Tauranga (tandem only), one in New Plymouth/Taranaki, one in Martinsborough (nearer to Wellington), one in Palmerston North. They fly a C-210.Lake Taupo has a full service dz, comparable to those in the US (in size and vibe), Great Lakes Skydiving Center (planes featured in CrossWind). There is a Tandem op just next to it, but I don't know if they do sporties. YOU MUST JUMP OVER TAUPO!!!!!!!!!!! They also have the biggest plane in the country. There is also a guy who will do "extreme" para-sailing around the lake (only one that I know of) and he is worth every penny (not even that much - 65$). Seek him out and give it a whirl...it is a different kind of blast!!Napier had one, but he moved to Martinsborough.South Island:Nelson has a Tandem op, Fox Glacier has a tandem op, Wanaka have Tandem op (but I understand they might let sporties jump on the extra spaces in the cessna - and I recommend you try...Wanaka is GORGEOUS from the sky), Queenstown has a tandem op (and DON'T try to get on his plane...he is such an ass to sporties).Dunedin (my home dz) has a full sport/tandem op. Ring Peter and tell him that Blaine sent you...then go jump with them...they are the greatest guys, but then again...I am a little biased. If you do go down this way...let me know ahead of time and I can hook you up with friends in the area...show you a good time!Christchurch has a full parachute school at Wigram Airf Force Base, so the landing area is huge and I don't know what they fly, but some of the regulars in Ash"vegas" jump there as well and say it is good...so try it out!Well, I don't know if you wanted ALL of this...but you hit a chord with this one..can you tell?...I MISS MY HOME!!!!!!!Have a great time out there...and if you do make it to any of the dz's where I mentioned people...tell 'em I say hello!Cheers,Kahurangi e Mahearangi,Pyke NZPF A - 2584USPA C- ?????
