aa1b 0 #1 August 17, 2001 Got my first jump off last week.As a pilot for about nine years,to say this is a different type of flying is an understatement! If it is slow and they can work me in, I will do my second jumpthis weekend. My question is ...do you have any tips to ease the butterflysand tips in general to get me to freefall?I was really calm on the first jump..until about 3 seconds after release,it seemed to take about 7 or 8 seconds for the chute to open(I.A.D).They said my arch was good with a small snivel before opening. I thought these guys where crazy, now I'm sure of it!Thanks for your response!
mountainman 0 #2 August 17, 2001 aa1b......as far as making your first jump, FINALLY.....Congratulations!!! I am sure that you will start wanting to jump out of them instead of land them from here on out. Just remember, if YOU are the who took the plane off, you may not want to jump out unless it is on fire.As far as tips for being in freefall....there are so many things that you can do. Your best bet is to just ask your JM and see what he/she says about it.However, I can offer this piece of advice for your butterflies and freefall.....RELAX.Good luck with your skydiving and keep us all updated!!And welcome to the dz.com family...--------------Drop on in...leave a message
freeflir29 0 #3 August 17, 2001 Breathing is very important. At 73 free falls and 72 military S/L's I still have to take several nice deep breaths and close my eyes for a few seconds before I exit. Your subconcious will never understand why you seem to think it's safe to exit. This new pilot we had asked me if I was scared when I jumped.(He was about to go to Airborne School) I said no but my hands are usually a little shaky after I get on the ground....LOL The adrenaline will never completely go away so you just have to learn to deal with it."I've got pieces of corn in my crap bigger than him" -Fat BastardClay

Learn to you them to your advantage and remember Skydiving is 90% Mental and 10% Physical... RELAX Breath and go thru the jump in your mind in slow motion... Dang who am I to give advice... I just know this is what helps me and I love the nervous tension before the jump! The Butterflys are my friends. I figure once they stop coming them I need to find a different sport...
