mccordia 74 #1 September 5, 2001 Already read about this in the Dutch skydiving magazine, but CNN also posted a small blurbhttp://europe.cnn.com/2001/WORLD/europe/07/19/netherlands.skydiver/index.htmlAlthough the kid is sayd to have fun, the look on her face in the pictures I saw was more that of fear. And although I'm probably not the right person to criticize this, I must say that IMHO you should wait with children to skydive untill they are old enough to think about what they are about to do, and fully understand what they are going through.Sure she had fun...but what's next...strapping 1 month old babies to a tandemmaster?Come on...wait untill the kid decides that she wants to skydive herself (and untill she understands what's involved in doing so...not just saying 'I want to skydive')Jarnohttp://www.3dluvr.com/mccordia

aa1b 0 #4 September 5, 2001 I try to keep an open mind but one reason I would not recommend this with a two year old is they may lose their fear of heights before they develop reasoning skills. This could be very dangerous around second story ledges, bla, bla, bla. We also don't know the long term effects on such an experiance ( it kind of rewired MY mind and I am an adult, wellI'm old enough to be one)
Aviatrr 0 #5 September 5, 2001 IMO, anybody under 18 should not be allowed to jump UNLESS one or both parents are experienced jumpers, and understand all the risks.. Even then - there should be a minimum age.. I would take my 10 year old niece on a tandem, but I wouldn't take my 5 year old niece.. It's kind of a moot point anyways, since their mother wouldn't ever consider it anyways.. I think that the kid needs to be old enough to fully understand what is about to happen, and what CAN happen.. What's that age? I don't know.. I would take my 10 year old niece because I know her intelligence level, and she understands what can happen during skydiving.. That said, a friend of mine has a kid that made over 10 tandems younger than 2 years old.. She(my friend, not the kid of course) is an experienced jumper with around 600 jumps.. Hell, I was with her during at least 6 or 7 of those tandems.. Oh, wait - nevermind....These all occured about 8 months before the baby was born.. Engovatov 0 #6 September 5, 2001 ...one guy I knew, skydove as a fetus. Knowing his mom - probably at stem cell stage as well.
cameramonkey 0 #7 September 5, 2001 He's not a skydiver, he's a tandem PASSENGER. when he can jump and pull his own ripcord(on his own), THEN he's a skydiver. Until then its all just a stupid PR stunt. I rode in a 747, does that make me a "heavy" pilot? didnt think so. :)

NewGuy 0 #9 September 5, 2001 This strikes me as a bit reckless; in the same catagory as parents that ski with their baby/toddler strapped in on their backpack/frontpack (no flames please, just my optinion, do as you like). The child has no understanding of the risk involved to be able to make an informed decision. I wouldn't stop someone from doing this - but certainly wouldn't do it myself.Cheers,NewGuy
SpeedRacer 1 #10 September 6, 2001 There was an article in Parachutist about pregnant women skydiving. The author skydived until she was 5 months pregnant. In the picture she has definitely started to show & there she is with her rig on getting on the plane. It generated some interesting & varied letters in the next months issue!Speed Racer"Come up to my lab,And see what's on the slab!"
PhreeZone 20 #11 September 6, 2001 One of the ladies I jump with all the time at the DZ jumped until she was 5 months pregnant. She would have keept jumping but her rig quit fitting her I guess. Little Rachel( now going on 2) has almost 35 skydives to her credit. Terri is a cool chick that knew the risks involved in jumping.Do I HAVE to do another raft dive??? The doc said it was a good possibility if she had a hard opening or landing..Mike
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
