Viking 0 #1 September 10, 2001 Well dispite my beleife that i wouldn't get to jump today i got two jumps in back to back loads heres how it went.On the drive there it was just clouded and it even spit rain twice i was so bummed but i could see lights spots right where i was goingLoad 2: I get all geared up and walk out to the plane everything is normal i am jumping the PD 260 today. So i get on the plane with the biggest grin on my face as i watch the two tandems get on and see the expressions on there faces. Once we get to 1500 i take my helmet off and the guy sitting next to me asks me what jump i am on i tell this will be my 10th and he says hey lets do a 2-way i kinda pause and think i am still on student stasus and i shouldn't be doing this. He see's this and says don't worry we won't get to close and that at 6 grand he will back off i will pull at 5-4.5 he do a nice poised exit but due to my rustyness i kinda screw up the exit and go squarly for a sec but i get it under control and find him and ARCH!!! and slowly get down to him we are a good 5-6 bodies apart and we just dance around the sky changing fallrates and such 6 comes and he makes sure i am looking at him and slaps him alti and bugs out. I pull just after 5 and get the best opening so far nice and slow and am in the sadle by 3.7 I start screaming my head off and doing HARD spirals (i had the toggle below my knee ) Landing goes good kinda awkward stand up but a stand up none the less. I gather up my expensive double king size bedsheet and give it the packers and go sign up for the next load but since its a shutdown its a good 30min call.Load 3: I get the other PD260 (if i ever jump another manta it will be a cold day in hell or a very busy day at the DZ!!) I get all geared up and get on the plane and and off we go. Again i get a kick out of watching the tandems expressions. I am third out and this time i get the perfect exit!!! facing the plane watching it fall away and i can just make out people moving around. I turn and go straight to a delta which cuases some rocking and stuff i go back to arch and this time i slowly bring my arms back then bring then into a full delta. I can feel the forward speed in that my jump suit is now starting to hurt me b/c its whipping so fast!! I hold that for a good 10 secs and can actually see the ground move underneith me!!!! i flatten out and turn towards the ocean to get a veiw of the marine layer that had played with my emotions. Sure was a beautiful site the puffy top and even a couple lines where the planes had climbed through it. Opened at 4.5 and got a slightly harder opening but nowhere near the slammer i got from the manta on my first solo so i was happy and proceeded to play around until 1grand and then setup on downwind. Thats when i notice an AFF guy coming in lower than me so i went a farther before i started my crosswind and then passed over him on my final leg. Another stand up landing and i am done for the day.I also sold two pictures and made plans to sell another next sunday b/c the guy didn't have the $$ so that was my day pretty decent i let off ALOT of steam and feel much better kinda like that scene in Halfbaked when the guy is all yelling at the other two guys for buying stuff and the he takes a hit and says "Sorry for yelling man *long exhale* *cough*" I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Michele 1 #2 September 10, 2001 Excellent, Arthur!I am pleased (and more than a little jealous - I didn't get to jump!) for you - both for the jumps and for the sales. Things have a tendency to handle themselves, as you are beginning to see. It is important that you have time to yourself, especially right now. It is also important to balance rw with "rw" .
