DZBone 0 #1 September 11, 2001 So, I saw an old friend over the weekend. Usually I only see her on the rigger's table, but this time she was over my head. She was a welcome sight, and pretty, but DAMN, did she slap my ass! Word to the wise: a smaller canopy can be fun, unless it's ROUND, then it just hurts like hell.By the way, if you want to get people's attention at the dz, forget the hot swoops. Land a round reserve. Apparently no one uses these any more, so they are a pretty rare sight. You will see old men crying, young girls fainting, skygods trembling.Well, maybe not, but you get the idea. Not only have few people seen a round, but neither have they seen a "real" plf! Everyone commented on the "hard landing", except the old guys, who were duly impressed (thank you, thank you ). Truth be told, I was worried about the landing, but the opening is what hurt.Another word to the wise. If you are jumping a pull-out, and the pin is hard to push in, and your hand is sore so you decide to try a different way of pulling, and you have to track a little extra and go a little lower to avoid traffic, be prepared to plf. Chain of events, 'nuff said.Carl

DZBone 0 #5 September 11, 2001 QuoteThats a Beer for the "pre-second" round reserve ride right?Sorry, man, but that was the third one. First was a two-out beauty courtesy of our friends at FXC (student gear, just after graduating). Turns out I had broken my hand (OK, pinky ) the previous jump and didn't realize it. When I saw the two canopies, I cut the square main away. Ended up landing in a tree. Not a happy thing to do in January in Connecticut. The second was a straight-forward line-over. DZBone 0 #10 September 11, 2001 QuoteWhat was it? A 24 Foot LoPo or a Phantom? It's a 24' Phantom. I should really have a 28'.Hmmm. Does anyone know where I can find a sizing chart for these? I had no luck searching on the Web.
FallingMarc 0 #11 September 11, 2001 I seem to remember a chart somewhere that was something along the lines of 150 lbs exit weight and under - 24', 150-200 - 26', and over 200 - 28'. That was all for hi porosity rounds.I weigh 135 and a 26' low porosity was a hard enough landing for me... hehe...MarcDamn my porno--I mean, photographic memory... Viking 0 #13 September 11, 2001 So was it a PC intow what caused you to see your old freind??I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver
DZBone 0 #14 September 11, 2001 QuoteSo was it a PC intow what caused you to see your old freind??On a pull-out, never! It was a hard pull. I tried twice (OK, maybe three times ), and moved on. Turns out it was very close. The opening shock popped it out the rest of the way, so I ended up with the main hooked to my foot. I thought about riding it in, or even after I cut away, just carrying it down on my foot, but thought better of it. Better to reduce complications, I figured.Of course, Tim and Jack were right there to help collect my stuff. Those guys are great. I sent Jack an email letting him know what a great dz Perris is. People say it's a "big business", unfriendly place, but I have found the opposite to be true. There are some good people working and jumping there!lol@lew

Michele 1 #23 September 11, 2001 Hey, Brandon (and Lew)Could you take it private? This is a post about Carl's cut away, not about you, your opinions, or LewMonst. and her opinions. If you are having a problem, let it out in pm (uh, remember? It works pretty effectively!!!).It's not that I don't want to read about your opinions, it is more that I want to know about DZ and how he's doing, and to muck up this particular post with the beginning of a flame war really seems inappropriate. Thanks, I really appreciate it. Ciels-Michele"What of the dreams that never die? Turn to your left at the end of the sky". ~e e cummings~
Aviatrr 0 #24 September 11, 2001 Good job, Carl.. I take it you landed on the DZ, eh? Good spot.. Did ya hit the peas?! I haven't been formally introduced to my current reserve.....but I've met 3 others in some interesting circumstances.. Mike
Albatross 0 #25 September 11, 2001 Carl,First of all it couldn't happen to a nicer guy. That you landed OK not the reserve ride. As for the stigma of a round WHO CARES as long as you land the damn thing. I am glad to hear that it all came out OK and that JAck found the main fast (Isn't he a great guy despite what some people say). As for the sizing AND I QUOTE "Up to 149 - 24 foot; 150-199 26 foot and 200+ - 28 foot" that is suspended weight for high porosity flat circular. So I think that the 26 foot was the right one. Now my stupid question what is a flat circular? Are their non-flat rounds?Go Big Or Go Home!!!!!Albatross
