made it by 30 minutes

Recommended Posts

I spent Monday in Boston, seeing my girlfriend and having my foot X-rayed to see if that skyboarder managed to break it when he stepped on my foot. (Convenient having a girlfriend who's an orthopedic surgeon.) I changed my flight so I could leave from Boston instead of New York, where I had spent the weekend with my family.
I got the last flight to San Diego on Monday night. We got on the plane, and then heard the pilot announce that there'd be at least an hour delay. After about 70 minutes we pushed back and taxiied out. We were in line for takeoff for another 30 minutes. As we were about to take the active, the pilot pulled off to the side, announced that we'd lost our clearance, and it would be another 30 minutes or so. This got me worried, since the San Diego airport has a curfew, and we were pushing it.
The woman across the aisle from me was irate, and kept asking the flight attendant when we'd leave, what the delay was, what would happen if we couldn't take off. "We'll put you on the first flight out tomorrow if we have to cancel the flight," she promised.
We finally took off. In retrospect that was a very good thing, because the next flight out to San Diego would have been American Airlines flight 11 to LAX (and then a commuter flight to San Diego.)

Wow, billvon.....that is one of those crazy stories you will start hearing about this thing.
I heard of one on TV/radio (can't remember) about a woman who was working in the hospital and she was using an instant messenger program with her husband who was in one of the WTC buildings on his computer. Right after he told her that he was OK, the internet connection was broke, she looked outside and saw the building he was in, start to crumble. Stuff like that is so sad, and I'm sure that more and more will come of this.
Like before, I am very glad you guys got to take off Billvon!! :)--------------

We made it in to San Diego just before midnight, so I figure I made it with five hours to spare before the groundings. And to think I was cranky about getting back so late . . .

Bill,
Glad to hear you made it back safely, albeit late. Being a broker I have ties to NY. In fact, my boss is in Boston and was planning to go to NY today. We spoke shortly after the two towers were hit. With his plans rearranged he will be flying back home to San Diego asap.

These kinds of experiences make you stop and realized that you're mortal and your life could be over at any time. So learn from experiences like these and make a point to live your life to the fullest everyday, and (this is very important) make a point to tell your loved ones that you love them every chance you get.
Did I Hear Someone Say BEER?? :P
