freeflir29 0 #3 September 28, 2001 There are several "in the area" depending on how far you want to drive but the closest is in a little town about 30 minutes north. It's called Crestview skydiving center and there's a link on the USPA web site. A lot of military folk jump out there from Hurby Fld and Eglin."This conversation ends right here Captain! SkymonkeyONE 4 #5 September 28, 2001 OK here are your options; Crestview is shut down:Elberta, AL is the closest Turbine. The DZ is called Emerald Coast Skydiving and M.D. Evans owns it now. Very cool.Skydive Headland is right north of Dothan, AL. Some of the Crestview guys go there now. It is a cessna DZ owned and operated by a couple of guys that used to work for my dad at Skydive Opelika.A tad farther west and on the otherside of Mobile Bay is Skydive Gold Coast in Moss Point, Mississippi. Another very nice turbine DZ.South and east will get you to all the big Florida DZ's, but they are still a good drive away.Chuck
freeflir29 0 #6 September 28, 2001 Then I think your next best bet is Emerald Coast which is near Pensacola or the School of Human flight near Tallahassee. "This conversation ends right here Captain! freeflir29 0 #8 September 29, 2001 Just be careful Wingy....the last thing in the world you wanna do is get put on med hold or even twist an ankle down there. It tends to make carrying a 60-70 lb ruck a little tougher......."This conversation ends right here Captain! prost 0 #9 September 29, 2001 You are right. Crestview is no more. Brigeta (I butchered that spelling) is flying somewhere in Alaska, and Bob Holler jumps at Emerald Coast. I jumped at Emerald Coast for a couple years but now I jump at Gold Coast. Emerald Coast has a twin Otter and a grass runway. It has an indoor packing area. Moss Point has a Beech 99(sort of a big king air with the door of an otter) and a 8000 foot runway. Moss Point is busier but will be a longer drive. If you need directions send me a private message.William Brightwell
