But, now it is a little red and sore, even though I have been cleaning it religiously with anti-bacterial soap like they told me to three times a day. freaksister 0 #2 October 2, 2001 You shouldn't need to use anything else on it...a little soreness/redness is to be expected...it may go away and come back off and on for awhile...very normal...if it gets really painful or infected, see a doctor or your piercer. So far, sounds like you are doing everything fine. BTW, if you wear tight jeans or pants (but especially jeans) that will irritate it for awhile.SisThe Freak KittyI lust for the ultimate rush... pyke 0 #3 October 2, 2001 Skymama - I don't know if I qualify as a "piercing pro" (although at one time I had over 13 of the buggers over my body), but take these hints from me...1) NEVER EVER use Neosporin on a piercing. While it may lead you to believe it is helping the healing process...every piercer I have ever asked about it says it also traps what bacteria is "in" there already, and can "speed up" the body's rejection process.2) As far as soreness and redness...that is to be expected...and don't expect it to go away TOO quickly...belly's take the LONGEST of any other body piercing due to the lack of nerve endings at the umb. cord. They should have told you to expect anywhere between 6-9 months...but I have seen longer and shorter - depending on the person - so results will vary (note: 6-9 months is NOT gospel)3) As far as what you can use to help the "pain" go away...I have always, and continued to use simple Bactine (that sunburn stuff - but I use the squeeze bottle and not the spray - I guess it wouldn't matter though). Do you know the stuff? Comes in a white and green "container". They say a healthy diet and as little stress as possible helps the healing process. I was told by the piercer, as was Merrick when he got his nipples done, to use sea salt (you can get it at a health food store) and warm water. For my belly, I just bent over, stuck the cup of water/salt against my belly over my navel, then held it tight as I layed down on the couch. lazerq3 0 #18 October 2, 2001 Hey winger, I got my ears pierced when I was in the Air Force and I bought these ear inserts that you sick in the hole and they are hallow so you can keep them in and put an earing in when you want or take it out always leaving in the insert. My shop chief told me to take them out and I pulled out the regs and showed him that the regs specifically state NO EARINGS!!! it said nothing about inserts. And sence they were clear you didnt notice them unless you were looking for them. Need less to say I won my case with the chief and left them in. However I think he was also just trying to be cool with the hole thing as long as I didnt go around showing them off in my uniform.
