Viking 0 #1 October 8, 2001 Man i feel so much better!!! I went down to Brown Field (My dz had to relocate after 9.11.01 b/c of the FAA restrictions on class B airspace) Today to get atleast one jump in. This place is like 2 miles from the border . Anyway i get there and hand Buzz three pictures that i had been holding since the weekend before the Attacks. I get on load four and make sure that there was a PD260 (my canopy of choice now) packed or atleast have one of the packers get one ready. Turns out Mat can get the blue one packed just intime so i go find a good jump suit and look everywhere for a helmet and goggles which i find in a bin next to the makeshift manifest table. I ask buzz if i can get a breafing on the landing patterns and he points me towards a minivan and says "that van goes out to the LZ you can get a feel for it and then get back intime to make your load" So i hop in the van and off me go. Now let me tell you if you guys thought you had an LZ way away from the rest of the DZ you need to pay a visit to this place. The lz is atleast 2 1/2 miles from the airfeild!!! i was straight shocked but hey its a landing area and i am jumping today so who cares. Ok back at the loading area i get my rig on and walk out with the rest of the load and when we get to the plane we are greeted by the pilot fidling with the battery cable that suplies the plane with startup power!! oh great so every loosens there straps, some take off there rigs all together and we sit on the tarmack in the shade enjoying the rather nice cool weather and shooting the shit until things are fixed. So the pilot gets things fixed and we get in the air. I got the window seat b/c i was to be first out . Ok so i get my spot and out i go from 14K, i get a rocky ride down the hill but i lvl off and start working on my dearching and do a good long track, turn (with my feet well thats my story i know I suck at writing but if you made it this far then ya love me anyway I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver

It's 4.5 miles from the DZ and half a mile from the Mexico boarder. I was told while on student status to keep 20 bucks on me for the federalies :) Usually though the boarder patrol comes over and tells you where the holes in the fence are so you can crawl underneath. Didn't happen too often and never happened to me but I know people who have landed over there. I have been on RW jumps that wound up in Mexico and had to fly back.
