Slappie 9 #1 October 8, 2001 I went down to the DZ Sunday. Weather was the pits Saturday. Got in about 11:30 still on a cloud-hold. Planes still in the hanger. Stood around with everyone. For the first time I didn't feel like I fit in for some reason. Went to manifest got on load 4. Couldn't find a rig. Moved down to 6. Still no rig... *argh!!* students!! I just don;t know what it was yesterday. I did the one jump and then left. It really didn't bug me to be leaving with 4 hours of daylight left...Any suggestions folks? My New Website with 24hr Chat
wingnut 0 #2 October 8, 2001 slappie,i know exactly how ya feel!!! i jump at a german club dz. and while everyone is nice i feel left out...my german is only partially good. i can ordr food and go shoping but my conversational german is very much lacking. i'll get there and sit around untill its time to jump (sometimes a while if students or tandems take up loads(c206 dz)) and i really don't haveany body to talk to that much..if i have a question i can normally find somebody to ask but i don't want to inconveniance the other guys into talking to me in german. we only go to 11,000ft (3,500m) at the highest and if ya see my log book alot of my 100+ jumps are from maybe 5,000ft. i think i've done maybe 10 rw jumps the whole 2 years i've been at the club....they do let me jump ith the tandems acasionally though so that is cool.......alot of the time i'm just not really into jumping before...but the door opens on jump run and it all comes back.......for that short time i'm on top of the world, even if i am doing a solo trying to get my turns down faster or lurking a tandem it's fun.....when i land i pack (or maybe not) and go home, ther is no after jumping socializing at my dz, mmaybe twice a year we do demo's into out club presidents back yard and have a bbq and party but that's the extent of it.....do you feel like your a part of the sky? for that minute you're in freefall, your king, that's all ya need to feel.......ya don't need anyone else, have fun with yourself (don' think perverted please)..once ya have fun with yourself, you can have fun with others......and if your stuck doing a solo, work on things ya can do by yourself..turns, tracking..ect........i once drove 300 miles to jump in southern germany, jumped once and drove strait back home.....jump cuz ya love it............i don't think i've felt like i fit in at any dz i've been at yet cept maybe the weekend i spent at perris, and michele, albatros, and the other dz.com people made that happen..."up my noooossseee"- wingnut, at first euro dz.com boogie
Slappie 9 #3 October 8, 2001 I agree, I'm all for the jumps and have been practicing stuff. I just didn't get that BUZZ afterwards. Well not to the extent of some of my other jumps. I think it has alot to do with the fact I'm not going to be able to afford a new/used rig for a few months. Tail end of the year for me kinda stinks for money. All the big projects have wound down and not alot of OT left. Plus I'm not making a whole lotta cash.. I think when I get my rig it will feel better. That way I'm not trying to find one just to make a jump nor am I bound to the DZ for a rental... I want the freedom of walking up manifesting and then not worryin about a rig My New Website with 24hr Chat

I would have jumped with ya but Sunday was "RW Day" for me. I only felt out of place when I was doing solo belly jumps right of student status. When I do solo freefly jumps now, I usually have some learning objectives -- like turning on heading & stable on each axis -- so now I always feel like I got something out of it. QuoteI just didn't get that BUZZ afterwards. Heh, I keep telling Liz it's not about the rush anymore. She doesn't believe me, but it's true. The "Holy Shit" aspect of it sort of went away a while back. But that's OK. Because now it's all about learning to fly. And that's much more fun! You still get those "Oh shit!" moments every now & then. Like on Sunday we were launching a 1-way and I was rear float. We had so many people pushingout the door that I felt my grip slowly giving way. I'm thinking "Oh shit, oh shit, hang on, hang on!" as my fingers are slowly sliding off the bar. Right as I was literally on the edge of my fingertips they gave the "Go!". I made it to the base OK, but boy was it close! And of course, there's nothing to give you an "Oh SHIT!" moment like being in on a funnelling 12-way! "Wear the grudge like a crown. Desperate to control. Unable to forgive. I would talk to your load organizers and let them know what you want to do - they should be able to help you out. Try to get them to put you with more experienced jumpers....you'll learn more. That's a little easier said than done, but most experienced jumpers don't mind helping out a newbie once in a while, because someone had to help them out when they were learning.Hackey
 freeflir29 0 #23 October 9, 2001 "because that space will be empty"Don't give up Sis! When I was at that stage, I found what helped me integrate with the more experienced jumpers and start getting invited on the jumps was that I got my RW endorsement (not sure if USPA offers that). But once everyone knew that I passed that and could now really handle myself in a 4 way etc. I received a ton more invitations and therefore gained experience and skills fast! Hang in there...you just need to find something new in the sport to excite you again!
