FallinWoman 1 #1 October 21, 2001 Get your minds out of the gutter! No, really, I had a scary premature deployment (a first!) today. I am not posting this in gear and rigging because I know why it happened, I just wanted to share!I was doing a solo, one of my first jumps back since my cutaway three weeks ago. My gear is not ready, so I packed my canopy into the DZ's container. Out the door, a few barrel rolls, just watching the guy ahead of me. I decide to try to spin as fast as I can. I got myself going pretty good, a nice flat spin on my belly, just spinning REALLY fast. Then suddenly I was being pulled vertical. Startled the crap out of me. First thought: "No way I am low enough for a Cypres fire!" Second thought: "Which canopy is open?"Third thought: "Can you say line twists???" It was my main, and because I was spinning so fast on opening, I had some really fun line twists! I got them cleared, I wasn't worried, I was at 6000ft!!! (I usually pull around 3,500-3000)So besides an extra long canopy ride, no harm was done. I repacked and my rigger and I took a look. Turns out that the pouch for my pilot chute was stretched out on this rIg, so tHe way I fold and roll my pilot left it sitting fairly loosely in the pouch. Best guess is that the combo of some barrel rolls and me spinning like that made the pilot chute work its way out of the pouch. I WANT MY CONTAINER BACK!!!!!!!!! Be careful, folks!Blue skies,Anne
Michele 1 #2 October 21, 2001 Hi, AnneWow. Wowowowowowow. Really relieved you're o.k. and figured out what the problem was. Get your gear back! You're just chalking them up, aren't you? Driving up that beer debt before winter...one right after the other. no more, o.k.? You've had your share. Really. No more. Skydiving is exciting enough all by it's self......()Ciels-Michele"What of the dreams that never die? skybytch 273 #3 October 21, 2001 Glad you're okay Anne! And glad you were on your belly; that could've been really nasty if you'd been on your butt or head down.pull and flare, lisa
HotLoad 0 #4 October 22, 2001 Michele, are you sitting in front of your computer doing whippits again? Naughty girl. A premature deployment head down would definitely ruin your day. Glad you're ok. I've got just the opposite situation. I just had my rig converted to BOC, and the pouch is really tight. No matter how I fold my pc, when I slide the ole' pud in it ends up in a big fat wad instead of filling the pouch evenly. It's made for a few hard pulls, but nothing to keep me out of the air. Even better, it's getting easier.
