ojf1982 0 #1 October 22, 2001 I have seen pictures of people jumping with sunglasses. Has anyone jumped with them and how do you keep them from flying off? Doesnt the air get in there and becomes uncomfortable for the eyes to be open?

PhreeZone 20 #3 October 22, 2001 I've done a few jumps without any eye protection and it doe'snt "hurt" as much as makes every thing blurry. Check out the archives for sunglasses. sunshine 2 #4 October 22, 2001 Eric, why on Earth would you jump without anything protecting your eyes? Don't ever try that when I'm around or I'll have to kick your ass! PhreeZone 20 #5 October 22, 2001 Well.... once I left them on the ground in a rush to meet a plane and there were no spares on board. Another time I forgot to put them on before exit, Same dive someone forget to close their visor in our dive. Wildblues got that video.... Another time I gave them to a student who forgot them since I'm not really bothered by no goggles anymore Jim has'nt worn goggles in over 8000 jumps so its really not that big of a deal.A rainy day at the DZ is better then a Sunny day at work
mouth 0 #6 October 22, 2001 That is so funny to hear you say this as I took my goggles off on a high hop and pop about a month ago. I saw something fly by me on the left so I turned my head and watched my left contact fly away. Then I felt my right one fly over my nose and go the same fate as the left one. Good thing I'm not blind. My eyes watered a good bit while playing under canopy so I can't imagine jumping from the top without goggles or something. wildblue 7 #7 October 22, 2001 Quotewhy on Earth would you jump without anything protecting your eyes? It wasn't intentional. Now if only he jumped a fullface, Mark could close it for him in freefall. SkymonkeyONE 4 #8 October 22, 2001 I normally wear sunglasses. No, my eyes don't hurt, and no, they don't fly off my head. With my mindwarp as well as a frap hat, they stay firmly in place. old-style neoprene croakies work really well at keeping them tight in the helmet. Just scoot them up all the way onto the arms prior to putting your helmet on. Lately, I haven't even been using croakies and still don't have any problem. The way I see it, is if a set of glasses works good while I am riding my Harley, then they are fine to skydive in. sunshine 2 #10 October 22, 2001 QuoteJim has'nt worn goggles in over 8000 jumps so its really not that big of a deal.I guess I just value eyesight more than some. I only see with one eye so I'm very careful. Whether you can still see with goggles on or not is only part of the issue. What if someone kicks you in the eye or something flies off your jumpsuit and hits you in the eye? Anything can happen up there, I would just hate to see something bad happen to one of my friends. chopchop 0 #11 October 22, 2001 I always jump in sunglasses haven't had a problem although I held them on my face during high speed exits form the casa at quincy. Use croakies or something similar. They are much more comfortable than goggles and they never move - my goggles did. The only thing is you have to clean them between jumps. I always have like tear splatters or something in them after each jump. Doesn't seem to matter whether it is belly, sit, or head down, they are always dirty afterwards. chopchopPD makes canopies all day long, you only have one life, when in doubt, cut away... SkymonkeyONE 4 #12 October 22, 2001 Quotethey are always dirty afterwards.Yeah, that's true. I always have to clean out the corners after each jump, but that doesn't bother me. Actually, licking them off is a good source of salt intake. Chuck"I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy"

flyboy62000 0 #14 October 23, 2001 lol, I made a jump with Mark early this season where my goggles broke on the plane right before exit. I just went without them, it's not that bad. If someone forgets goggles and there are no spares on the plane I'll lend them mine. Jumping without goggles is different but not that bad.
