There is no way this is gonna work..

Recommended Posts

So im packing today and i remember one time looking at this pile of lines that some how i managed to stow and just shook my head thinking that there is no way on earth that this could possibly open right..maybe i should let a packer repack for me.. well i have to use the reserve some time. so i closed it up and manifested... well to my shock everything opened great and on heading... but i must tell you all about this..
I was packing after my 2nd dive stowed the lines down to about a foot or so from the risers and realized the one riser had about a foot more line than the other they were uneven.. My first thought is well this no problem ill just close it up and hope for the best just like in the previous situation..but i had a bad feeling about this so decided to dump it out and repack.. later on in the day someone else had the same problem ony he closed his up. he definetly regreted the situation. his rigger gets a free bottle... so lesson learned if it doesnt feel right re do it. it just might save ya..

Don't know what you are jumping, but with a high performance canopy; excess lines on one side + line twists = a visit to your rigger. A good way to avoid this is to tie your 3-Rings together with your pull up cord as the first step in packing.

Hmmmm......you learn something new every day. My lines are always uneven at the bottom. Maybe that's why I get off heading openings every third or fourth jump.......:)"There once was a man named Enis.....B|"-Krusty the Clown

Kinda did the same thing a couple weeks ago where I started my line stows on the left instaed of the right of the bag. When I got done with the last stow I had one band left open on the same side as my last stow and this left about 32in between my risers and first stow. I asked another jumper what he thought and he said just make sure you fold it in neat so it doesnt loop over anything I thought OK!! Well because of so much unstowed line as soon as I deployed I saw an inflated canopy but a slider half way up the lines and line twists from hell!!!. Luckily I fly a PD170 so I was able to kick out but on a small HP canopy it probaly would have been chop time! The rush(packing) isnt worth the risks!!

Hey, it only takes 5 or 10 minutes to unstow your lines and start over. It takes alot longer to wait for a repack (and doesnt' cost anything) I know a famous skydiver with many, many thousand skydives that would say something like "Don't pack a reserve ride" =-)
I use my pull up chord to tie my three rings together as well, it's a good habit. I also check to make sure the cascade points for the left and right lines are in alignment as well just before I flake the nose. "check twice, pack once" =-)

The good news is that you probably would have been fine jumping it like it was....that other guy is jumping a tiny Spinnetto, highly loaded, and you've got the lightly loaded skymaster 230.
The better news is that you made a really smart choice. Why risk it??
always stay safe,

Yeah but bad habits learned now will bite you in the ass very hard later. Especially since you get used to getting away with dumb shit and think nothing of it when it starts to count......
